Patent number: 11781751Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods for high flame temperature oxy-combustion that enables the capture of CO2 cost effectively. One part of the presently disclosed subject matter comprises an annular shroud burner which utilizes a supply of undiluted oxygen and minimal flue gas recycle to generate a high flame temperature to maximize efficiency. The annular shroud burner may deliver oxygen into a combustion zone where mixing of the oxygen and a stream of fuel occurs. Flue gas recycled from the exit of the combustion system serves the dual purpose of conveying the coal into the reaction zone, as well as providing local cooling and protection from high incident heat fluxes through the novel shroud cooling design. The annular shroud burner may be configured to produce an axial jet flame that controls the rate of mixing of oxygen and fuel, thereby extending the heat release. Oxygen and coal may be mixed in a ratio such that peak flame temperatures exceed 4,500° F. (2,482° C.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2020Date of Patent: October 10, 2023Assignee: Jupiter Oxygen CorporationInventors: Brydger Van Otten, Steven Harold Krimsky, Kevin Davis, Andrew Paul Chiodo

Patent number: 9353945Abstract: A control system for an oxy-fuel combustion process is disclosed for use with a boiler or furnace which dynamically controls the flame temperature of each burner involved in the combustion process to dynamically maximize the flame temperature. The boiler or furnace used in conjunction with the combustion process in accordance with the present invention is configured with a radiant, i.e. line of sight, heat zone and a convective heat zone. By dynamically maximizing the flame temperature of the various burners within the boiler or furnace, the radiant heat transfer is optimized. By optimizing the radiant heat transfer within the boiler or furnace, the efficiency of the boiler or furnace is significantly improved.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2008Date of Patent: May 31, 2016Assignee: Jupiter Oxygen CorporationInventors: Dietrich M. Patent number: 8038773Abstract: A method of reducing pollutants exhausted into the atmosphere from the combustion of fossil fuels. The disclosed process removes nitrogen from air for combustion, separates the solid combustion products from the gases and vapors and can capture the entire vapor/gas stream for sequestration leaving near-zero emissions. The invention produces up to three captured material streams. The first stream is contaminant-laden water containing SOx, residual NOx particulates and particulate-bound Hg and other trace contaminants. The second stream can be a low-volume flue gas stream containing N2 and O2 if CO2 purification is needed. The final product stream is a mixture comprising predominantly CO2 with smaller amounts of H2O, Ar, N2, O2, SOX, NOX, Hg, and other trace gases.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2007Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Assignee: Jupiter Oxygen CorporationInventors: Thomas L.
