  • Patent number: 6132213
Abstract: Dental handpiece with an instrument section (1) for accepting a dental tool and with a second, hose section (2) which is capable of being detachably coupled to the instrument section and to which a media delivery line for the delivery of certain supply media for operation of the dental tool is capable of being linked, said dental tool being operated by a drive motor (3). The drive motor comprises a stator (9) and a rotor (5). The rotor (5) of the drive motor (3) is arranged in the instrument section (1) separate from the stator (9), the stator (9) of the drive motor (3) being arranged in the hose section (2). By virtue of the partial integration, in accordance with the invention, of the drive motor, the weight of the dental handpiece is diminished and the ease of handling of the dental handpiece is improved. In addition, higher working speeds of the dental tool can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6102704
Abstract: Method and device for the detection of caries in teeth (8). In order, after investigation of a tooth (8), to be able again to find the tooth location with the greatest incidence of caries, the instantaneous measurement value and the peak measurement value--which corresponds to the location with the greatest incidence of caries attack--are displayed. By comparison of the instantaneous measurement value with the peak measurement value the tooth location with the greatest incidence of caries attack can be localised when the instantaneous measurement value coincides with the peak measurement value.

  • Patent number: 5604817
Abstract: A method for the optical three dimensional measurement of a tooth without calibration bodies. An optical projection system projects a pattern onto a tooth, and an optical imaging system images the pattern projected thereon, from a first position in space and subsequently from a second position in space, with the images from the two positions in space having a common imaged area of the tooth. The image patterns are evaluated to calculate three dimensional coordinate data of the tooth surface relative to the respective imaging position for each image and also for the two images combined, to produce a single three dimensional tooth surface data record. In this method, points and/or surfaces are selected from the common imaged area with the aid of properties of the tooth surface contour which are invariant under displacement and rotation, so that they can be clearly correlated with each other.
