Patents Assigned to Kaney Aerospace, Inc.
  • Patent number: 11799364
Abstract: Electric propulsion systems, and methods of operating and implementing same, are disclosed herein. In one example embodiment, an electric propulsion system includes an electric motor, a motor drive coupled to the electric motor, and a thermal management subsystem. The electric motor is a permanent magnet synchronous motor, and the motor drive includes each of an inverter including a plurality of wide bandgap semiconductor field effect transistors (FETs), and a controller coupled at least indirectly to the FETs and configured to control the FETs by way of pulse width modulation (PWM) control. Additionally, at least a first portion of the electric motor and at least a second portion of the motor drive are cooled by the thermal management subsystem.

  • Patent number: 11626788
Abstract: Magnetic cycloidal gear assemblies and mounting arrangements for magnetic cycloidal gear assemblies are provided that include a fixed stator and a cycloid that rotates eccentrically within the stator. The cycloid can be mounted to an offset cam on the input shaft by a rolling element bearing. A plurality of cam followers connect the cycloid to the output hub. Various features can be provided to increase operational balance or stability. For example, an adjustable counterweight can be attached to the input shaft. Also for example, a mounting arrangement including an adjustable nut, one or more bearings, and/or one or more wave springs can be provided to allow for the application, balancing, or adjustment of axial forces within the assembly.

  • Patent number: 11563366
Abstract: The present disclosure to electromagnetically-controlled magnetic cycloidal gear assemblies and methods of operating same. In one example embodiment, such an assembly includes a stator that is concentric with respect to a primary axis of the assembly, and that includes a plurality of first magnetic devices, where each of those devices includes a respective electromagnet. Also, the assembly includes an input shaft that includes an offset cam, a cycloid mounted at least indirectly upon the offset cam, and an output hub. The cycloid is eccentric with respect to the primary axis and includes a plurality of second magnetic devices, and the output hub is at least indirectly rotationally coupled to the cycloid. The assembly also includes a controller coupled to each of the electromagnets by way of one or more linkages, and configured to govern at least one electric current that is passed through at least one of the electromagnets.

  • Patent number: 11427086
Abstract: Electrical power conversion systems and methods suited for driving electric motors, and related systems such as propulsion systems, and vehicles employing same, are disclosed herein. In an example embodiment, the electrical power conversion system includes a plurality of series coupled inverters, each including respective first and second DC input terminals and also including respective AC output ports by which the inverters can respectively be coupled at least indirectly to motor winding sets. Additionally, the system includes a controller coupled to the inverters and configured to generate control signals that are respectively provided to the inverters. The control signals tend to cause respective AC output powers output from the respective AC output ports to be equal or substantially equal in a manner that tends to result in respective DC link voltage portions applied between the respective DC input terminals of the respective inverters being or becoming equal or substantially equal.
