Patent number: 10473018Abstract: An exhaust line includes a housing having a wall with an opening and a baffle disposed within the opening. In certain embodiments, the exhaust line includes a divider between the wall and baffle that partially defines a mixing chamber for receiving an exhaust and a reducing agent, and partially defines a bypass chamber for receiving another portion of the exhaust. The divider defines an inlet and outlet facing respective upstream and downstream ends. The divider transfers heat from exhaust passing through the bypass chamber to the reducing agent inside the mixing chamber. In other embodiments, the baffle partially defines a first passageway substantially parallel to and offset from a center axis for delivering a portion of the exhaust to the mixing chamber, and a ramped surface partially defining a second passageway transverse to the first passageway for delivering another portion of the exhaust to the mixing chamber.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2017Date of Patent: November 12, 2019Assignee: KATCON GLOBAL S.A.Inventors: Joseph Marie Gerard Vankan, Janusz Puczok

Patent number: 8795598Abstract: An exhaust treatment device comprises a housing defining an inlet opening and an outlet opening, a first catalyst brick and a second catalyst brick each having an inlet end and an outlet end, a first insulating support cover, and a second insulating support cover. The first catalyst brick is disposed within a first segment of the housing, and the second catalyst brick is disposed within a second segment of the housing. The first segment has an inner periphery that is not equal to an inner periphery of the second segment. The first and second catalyst bricks each have nonuniform dimensions with respect to one another. The first and second segments of the housing are independently dimensioned in proportion to the first and second catalyst bricks respectively. The first insulating support cover is disposed within the first segment of the housing in a first annular space between an inner surface of the housing and an exterior surface of the first catalyst brick.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2007Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Katcon Global S.A.Inventor: Michael Paul Lawrukovich

Publication number: 20130047841Abstract: A device for diagnosing a particle filter attached onto a main exhaust line of an internal combustion engine, wherein the diagnosis device includes, downstream from the first particle filter, a detection filter and a sensor for measuring an output parameter of the detection filter. The detection filter is arranged in a secondary exhaust line through which a first portion of the gases from the particle filter passes, wherein a second portion of the gases from the particle filter follows the main exhaust line. The device can be used for diagnosing particle filters for an automobile having a combustion engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2010Publication date: February 28, 2013Applicant: Katcon Global S.A.Inventor: Said Zidat

Patent number: 8201331Abstract: A method of making a catalytic converter includes providing a catalyst substrate having a substrate periphery and a mat support disposed thereon. The method also includes providing a metal shell having a shell wall having a shell periphery and a bore that is configured to receive the catalyst substrate and mat support. It further includes inserting the catalyst substrate and mat support into the bore of the metal shell in slidable engagement therewith. Still further it includes reducing the shell periphery while applying an axial force sufficient to cause translation of the catalyst substrate and mat support relative to the bore until the force reaches a predetermined retention force threshold, whereupon the reducing of the shell periphery and translation of the catalyst substrate is stopped.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2008Date of Patent: June 19, 2012Assignee: Katcon Global S.A.
