    Abstract: A magnetic bearing arrangement for a rotor, having permanent magnets to absorb radial bearing forces, and having an axial stabilizer which keeps the rotor in a contactless position in relation to the stator. Attached to the stator are electric coils, which interact with magnetizable parts fastened to the rotor. To make the bearing arrangement as independent as possible from the spatial orientation of the rotor axis, and from housing deformations, there is provided, in the vicinity of the rotor center of gravity, a center-of-gravity bearing having a comparatively high radial rigidity and at another point of the rotor there is provided a stabilizer bearing, having a radial rigidity which is less than that of the center-of-gravity bearing. The center-of-gravity bearing supports the major portion of the rotor weight, and the stabilizer bearing is primarily responsible for the static and dynamic stabilization of the entire system.

    Abstract: In order to prevent the formation of a hydrogen atmosphere in a free gas ce usually available in the storage containers of radioactive waste, potassium permanganate is dispersed in a suitable carrier within the storage barrel provided for the waste. When the radioactive waste is first encased in cement before being put in a storage barrel, the potassium permanganate is introduced into the cement before it sets by mixing in a solution or crystals. Alternatively the compressed or solidified waste is enveloped in a porous non-reducing aggregate of carrier materials, such as particles of aluminum oxide, on the exposed surfaces of which potassium permanganate is applied or which is mixed with potassium per manganate particles. The waste and the enveloping permanganate-containing carrier material are then securely enclosed in a common container.

    Abstract: A thin metal foil or an array of fine wires or a graphite web, mat or the ke, having electrical conductivity was interposed between clean polished surfaces of ceramic parts which are to be joined, with application of pressure. A high current electrical discharge with very short duration puts so much energy into the conducting material that it explosively vaporizes and penetrates interacts with the ceramic before the ceramic can absorb an appreciable amount of heat and before the hot material can undesirably react with the surrounding atmosphere, so that an inert atmosphere is not necessary for the process. Metals that form silicides and/or carbides are for e.g. desirable for connecting SiC parts and conducting forms of carbon such as graphite are also suitable. Precoating the surfaces to be joined, with reactive or reaction-promoting material as well as a thermal treatment of the joint may be favorable.

    Abstract: In order to clean gases containing noxious components by contacting the gases with a solid material layer adhering to carrier bodies, the solid material layer is applied to the carrier body by wetting with an impregnating solution and then drying the solution on the carrier bodies. After being used up by reaction with the gases to be cleaned, the solid material layer is removed from the carrier bodies, after which it can be replaced by wetting with impregnating solution and drying again. The carrier bodies are stationary and the impregnating solution is trickled over them. Once the carrier bodies are wetted, irrigation with the impregnation solution is interrupted and the solution is dried on the carrier bodies. When the gas reaction at the solid material layer thus formed weakens, the stationary carrier bodies are re-irrigated with impregnation solution and dried. After many repeated impregnations the solid material layer is washed away by flushing or flooding the carrier bodies with a wash solution.

    Abstract: For joining shaped bodies of silicon nitride together, silicon nitride surfaces to be joined are first polished and then put into an apparatus for applying sputtered layers where they are first cleaned by ion bombardment in argon, followed immediately by sputtering with silicon in a nitrogen atmosphere such that a layer is deposited having a nitrogen content exceeding the Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 stoichiometric ratio. This readily provides a layer of the composition Si.sub.3 N.sub.5.5. A complementary nitrogen deficient layer is also provided in the joint before hot pressing, either in the form of a silicon layer that goes between the nitrogen-rich silicon nitride layers or in the form of a nitrogen-deficient silicon nitride layer sputtered onto a polished silicon nitride surface at relatively low nitrogen pressure. The parts are isostatically hot pressed together at 1500.degree. to 1750.degree. C. in a nitrogen atmosphere. The layers which are usually thinner than 1 .mu.

    Abstract: Liquid fuel and water pressurized by fuel and water pumps are forced into a aporizer which is heated by hot exhaust gases of a piston engine. The resulting vapor mixture is blown into the combustion chamber of a cylinder head of the engine at a speed up to that of sound near the end of the engine's compression stroke where it mixed with precompressed air. The resulting explosive mixture is ignited by self-ignition or by spark plug and the water vapor content mixed with the fuel vapor lowers the combustion temperature, resulting in a significant reduction of nitrogen oxide content in the exhaust gases. The ratio of water vapor to fuel vapor is preferably 1:1 to 3:1 and the temperature at which the vapor mixture is introduced into the cylinder is above the dew point of the fuel in the fuel vapor and water vapor mixture. The mixture of fuel with air is approximately stoichiometric. Diesel oil is useable, and also such bio-mass fuels as vegetable oils.

The object is also to determine the concentrations of substance present in high concentration with very great absolute precision. For this purpose, an osmometer solution is selected which contains an excess of not more than 80 mOsm more than the reference solution, and in which the substances to be measured are contained in such a concentration that the difference of the concentrations of the substances in the solution to be tested and in the osmometer solution is not more than 70 mOsm.

In this process, the hydrosol is trickled in a pouring column into a precipitation bath, subsequent to the introduction of the material which is to be embedded, in which the hydrosol particles which are formed during the trickling gelatinize into gel particles.     Abstract: Molded bodies of SiC ceramic can be firmly bonded to each other or to mol bodies of other ceramic material or to metal workpieces by the establishment of diffusion-welding conditions when a metal alloy layer is interposed between cleaned and polished surfaces that are to be joined. The alloy metal of the layer is MnCu or MnCo or multi-component alloys containing the foregoing as a base and additions of other metals to a total percentage not exceeding 70% with each single other metal being present in the range from 2 to 45% by weight. Such other metals constitute 1 or more of Cr, Ti, Zr, Fe, Ni, V and Ta. The Mn, Cu alloy or alloy base has a Cu content from 10 to 90%, preferably 25 to 82% and the MnCo alloy or alloy base has a cobalt content of 5 to 50% by weight. MnCuFe eutectic compositions containing 5 to 30% by weight Fe and 10 to 90% by weight Cu and MnCoCr eutectic compositions with chromium content from 2 to 45% by weight are preferred, especially 50:40:10 MnCuFe and 60:30:10 MnCoCr.

Preferably, the rotary plate is rotated each time in steps at determined cycle times, specifically according to a program, by a determined number of collection spaces with "phase-shifted" multiple rotations of the plate, until the filter surface is completely used up. Instead of a filter disc, absorber material can also be used for radioactivity monitoring with a forward motion cycle of 1 to 2 days.

The X-R compounds with acid hydrogen are excluded. The next step is to bring the organic compound X-R into contact with fluoride ions which are present in a solvent. These fluoride ions are essentially carrier free .sup.18 F ions. The organic compound is brought into contact with the fluoride ions in an apparatus to produce a reaction.

    Abstract: Waste water purification employing the activated sludge process with batch-wise waste water feed to the aeration tank. There is continuous aeration and water discharge from the tank. The process has a fixed dosing cycle based on historical values for the curve of the bacterial activity with the batch-wise waste water feed or a function of indicator values for this activity, specifically as a function of the oxygen concentration in the tank through an appropriate control, which briefly opens the waste water feed when, for example, an oxygen electrode indicates that an adjustable limit value has been exceeded. By means of such an oxygen electrode, an alarm signal can simultaneously be tripped if the high oxygen consumption expected after the admission of the waste water does not occur. The process is specifically useful for the treatment of waste waters which tend to form too much bulking sludge.
