  • Patent number: 5671853
Abstract: A child-resistant closure container system allowing easy opening by debilitated adults. The closure has moveable panels on the side wall which, when depressed, allow the unscrewing of the closure from the neck of the jar or vial. The moveable panels include tabs engaging stationary locking lugs on the neck finish annulus, which prevent removal of the closure without depressing the tabs. The annulus and stationary locking lugs can be an integral part of the jar or vial.

  • Patent number: 5660288
Abstract: A container for use with tamper-evident closures, or tamper-evident child-resistant closures, having tamper-evident bands is provided. The container has threads for engaging corresponding threads on the tamper-evident closure. The container further has ramps for engaging tamper-evident elements on the tamper-evident band of the tamper-evident closure. The ramps hold the tamper-evident elements down while the closure is being rotated off of the container. Furthermore, the slant of the ramps actually serves to force the tamper-evident elements downward while the closure is rotated off. This greatly enhances the ease of removal of the tamper-evident closure, thus making the closure far easier to use, without sacrificing the important tamper-evident quality. Furthermore, the accelerated separation of the band from the closure enhances the tamper evidency features of the package by causing band separation upon distortion, before the closure/bottle seal is broken.

  • Patent number: 5657901
Abstract: A dispenser of dispensing tablets one at a time which includes a feature which prevents children from dispensing tablets. The dispenser has a reservoir and a moving slider member that can be moved from a non-dispensing position to a dispensing position, after an locking pin or detent is unlocked. The unlocking pin or detent is mounted on a movable thumbpad, which requires the application of upward force to unlock the locking pin or detent from a locking hole or recess. The slider member has a chamber which holds only one tablet, which chamber moves from a position where the tablet is blocked from dropping from the chamber to a position where the chamber is aligned with a dispensing opening. In the dispensing position, the tablet in the chamber is dispensed, whereas the remaining tablets in the dispenser prevented from entering the chamber by a wall on the slider member.

  • Patent number: 5588546
Abstract: A closure has a stay-open lid. A nib on the lid, which frictionally engages the walls of a void on the base, allows the lid to stay-open unless forcibly closed by the user.

  • Patent number: 5445022
Abstract: A device for measuring a powdered or granular product includes a product receptacle having an open end, a side wall surrounding the open end and a sealing member disposed opposite the open end and coupled to the side wall. The side wall is coupled to the sealing member so that product received in the receptacle can leave the receptacle only through the open end. The device further includes a handle extending, a first end of which is coupled to the side wall so that a consumer of the product may rotate the handle from an initial position for packing the measuring device and the product into the package to a measuring position for measuring desired quantities of the product. When in the initial position, the handle extends from the side wall substantially parallel to the first direction and, when in the measuring position, the handle extends away from the side wall in a direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction.

  • Patent number: 5417350
Abstract: A closure including an improved hinge includes a cap member selectively coupleable to a container to cover an opening in the container. The cap member includes a first substantially planar member, a depending skirt and an aperture formed through the first substantially planar member. A solid member integrally formed with the cap member projects out of the first substantially planar member. The solid member includes an upper surface and two opposed side surfaces, with each of the opposed side surfaces having an indentation formed therein. The closure further includes a flip top having a plug wherein, when the flip top is in a closed position, the plug seals the aperture formed in the first substantially planar member and the flip top covers substantially all of the first planar member, wherein the flip top includes a cut-out area to accommodate the solid member so that, when the flip top is in the closed position, the flip top and the upper surface of the solid member form a substantially continuous surface.

  • Patent number: 5348201
Abstract: An improved flip top closure device for a dispensing opening of a container, comprising a first body member with a flip top adapted to be mounted on the container, and a second body member mounted on the first body member and having a part which is usually in overlapping relation with the flip top to prevent opening thereof, which part is displaceable from said overlapping relation to expose the edge of the flip top for opening thereof and which, by virtue of spring tabs which provide restorative force, will return to the overlapping position without need for external physical manipulation.

  • Patent number: 5280842
Abstract: This invention relates to two-piece child resistant closures which utilize a ratchet feature to screw on the closure and, more specifically, to a two-piece child resistant closure wherein a particular ratchet configuration and placement of the elements thereof provides negligible reverse torque during undepressed counter-clockwise rotation of the outer closure member. Negligible reverse torque is defined as the torque caused by frictional contact of the outer and inner cap members when the undepressed closure is turned in the removal direction is insufficient to cause the undesired or accidental removal of the closure from the container.
