Abstract: A tether device is provided which includes a first wristband to which a retracting mechanism is attached. A first end of a cord may be attached to the retracting mechanism. A second end of the cord may be attached to a second band. The retracting mechanism permits retraction and extension of the cord between the first and second wristbands responsive to changes in distance between first and second persons wearing the respective first and second wristbands. The present tether device provides an effective, lightweight tether system that may be used by an adult for inconspicuous, hands-free restraint of a child, particularly in public areas.
