Patents Assigned to KM Engineering AG
  • Patent number: 4846033
Abstract: Polygonally-shaped blanks useful in making products such as can parts are formed by dividing a relatively wide web of material into a plurality of relatively narrow strips, each strip having longitudinal edges delimited by scroll lines formed from a plurality of straight scroll line sections. The strips can be arranged parallel to a longitudinal axis of the web or at an angle relative thereto. It is also possible to divide the strips into individual blanks at a scrolling station or at a remote can making station. The polygonal shape of the blanks permits them to be designed so as to compensate for earing caused by the anisotropy of the material from which the web is made. Various punches and slitting arrangements can be employed to perforate the web and to longitudinally and laterally cut it so as to form the strip and/or blanks therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4697688
Abstract: A transfer mechanism and a circular transfer press combination has plurality of tools for performing operation on components. The tools are arranged in a tool circle. The transfer mechanism has a device for transferring components between stations arranged at equal angles on a first circular path with at least one carried member. A plurality of pocket members is arranged at equal angles on a second circular path is carrier by the carrier member. Each pocket member receives a component and for transporting the component between two of the stations. A drive arrangement is connected to the carrier member for moving the carrier member in a such manner that a center of each pocket member moves along a curved path and passes consecutively through two work stations. The drive arrangement is arranged for conveying to the carrier member a uniform unidirectional rotary motion. A tool actuating device is provided for operating the tools consecutively one after the other.

  • Patent number: 4471644
Abstract: A machine for mechanically treating components, such as metallic hollow members having a body and a bottom. The machine has a stationary frame bearing a plurality of work stations each of which has a tool pair including a first fixed tool coaxial with a movable second tool. The first and second tools are arranged on two coaxial circular paths with the first tool of each pair on a bolster. The second tool of each pair is on one end of a ram member having a tool bearing end and an actuated end. The ram member is slidably supported in guiding means. The actuated end of the ram member is connected to a cylindrical actuating cam having a free end in contact with the actuated ram member end. At least one pair of the tools are different than another pair. The tool bolster is immovable, the cam is rotated and transfer mechanisms are associated with the machine so that each component is treated by at least two different pairs of tools.

  • Patent number: 4096731
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for transferring articles between successive work stations at which working operations are effected. More particularly, the workpieces are transferred between the forming stations on a multistage forming press. On completion of a machining operation, a burst of the coolant/lubricant emulsion used in the forming press is fired at the workpiece from a propelling nozzle located near the forming station. The workpiece is thus propelled to the next station along a curved guideway which comprises a smooth, curved track bounded by guiderails. On arrival at the next station, the workpiece is guided into position by guide members and finally positioned exactly by means of a burst of the same coolant/lubricant emulsion fired from a positioning nozzle located near the station. Regulating mechanisms are provided to fire bursts of emulsion in time with the working stroke of the press.

  • Patent number: 3951083
Abstract: A reciprocally driven device is provided for forming a smooth inwardly convex flange-bearing edge-groove or -corrugation onto the open end of a metal container. A punch is moved axially to secure the container in a receiver, to move at least two cheeks towards the axis of the punch and to compress a resilient pressure-cushion about the periphery of the punch to form the flange-bearing edge-groove in the open end of the container. The device is particularly useful on an extrusion press which forms the drawn metal hollow body of the container.

  • Patent number: 3939685
Abstract: A mechanism for centering metal hollow bodies during a drawing operation is disposed in front of a die of an ironing tool. The metal hollow bodies each have a flared section along the edge zone of its open face. The mechanism comprises at least two centering-cheeks adapted to the circumference of the metal hollow body. The centering-cheeks are movably supported for sliding movement within a plane extending transversely to the tool axis and in any direction towards or away from the tool axis. Mechanical control means effect periodic opening motion of the centering-cheeks in any direction away from the tool axis in dependence upon the motion of a draw punch. The control means are effective to cause the two centering-cheeks to embrace the hollow body centeringly after it has been thrust into the die by the draw punch and at at least a fraction of its overall height.
