  • Patent number: 7434454
Abstract: There is provided a method and a apparatus for measuring tire uniformity. The apparatus comprises a spindle, a rotating drum, a sensor and a computing means. The method comprises the steps of mounting a tire on the spindle, pressing a circumferential surface of a rotating drum against the tread surface of the tire with a first pressing force, rotating the tire around rotational axis thereof, and computing the forces which the tire acts on first and second planes of the tire by the computing means while the tire is rotating. The first plane is perpendicular to the rotational axis and in one sidewall side of the tire. The second plane is perpendicular to the rotational axis and in the other sidewall side of the tire. The forces are computed based on values obtained by the sensor measuring forces transmitted to the spindle from the tire at first and second positions. The first and second positions have different distances from the tire in the rotational axis direction.

  • Patent number: 6786093
Abstract: Balancing apparatus that supports and rotates a body to be measured with a rotating mechanism so that the body vibrates due to the dynamic imbalance thereof. The vibration of the body is transmitted to a vibration member and then detected by a sensor. A vibrator is connected to the vibration member. The vibrator applies to the vibration member a vibration that is an inverse of a vibration that will be generated in the vibration member by an ideal body having an ideal dynamic imbalance. By detecting the vibration remaining in the vibration member, the balancing apparatus measures the deviation of the dynamic imbalance of the body from the ideal dynamic imbalance.

  • Patent number: 6631640
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for accurately measuring an initial imbalance deviating from a predetermined imbalance, when the predetermined imbalance is to be left in a body of rotation. In the method and apparatus, data relating to the predetermined imbalance is stored in a memory 27 as dummy value information. The vibration of a crank shaft 1 during rotation is detected by vibration sensors 6L, 6R to obtain analogue vibration signals WDL, WDR. The rotational angle position of the crank shaft 1 is detected by a photo sensor 8 and, in response, the above described dummy value information is converted to analogue dummy signals DLX, DLY, DRX and DRY by multi D/A converters 12L, 12R, 13L and 13R. These analogue dummy signals are removed from the analogue vibration signals to obtain analogue initial imbalance signals WL, WR, which are converted by D/A converter to obtain the digital initial imbalance value.

  • Patent number: 6308566
Abstract: A measuring apparatus for the uniformity and/or the dynamic-balance of a tire is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a supporting member which is rotated with supporting a tested tire, a holding member which holds said supporting member with allowing to vibrate during rotation thereof and a regulating system which prevents the vibration of the supporting member during rotation thereof. The vibration of the supporting member is prevented by the regulating system for a uniformity measurement while it is allowed during a dynamic-balance measurement.

  • Patent number: 5383361
Abstract: A wheel balance measuring apparatus includes a frame, a hollow rim support shaft rotatably supported by the frame through a bearing, a lower rim mounted on the hollow rim support shaft, and an upper rim positioning above and confronting with the lower rim, so as to be shiftable along and rotatable about the vertical axis. A tested wheel is sandwiched between these upper and lower rims and is rotated together with the hollow rim support shaft for measuring dynamic balance of the tested wheel. The apparatus comprises a coupling shaft having an upper end connected integrally with the upper rim and a lower end formed with a plurality of engaging projections arrayed along an axial direction. This coupling shaft is inserted into or pulled out from the hollow rim support shaft. Claws are disposed inside the rim support shaft for selectively engaging with and disengaging from the engaging projections. A shift device shifts the claws between an engaging position and a disengaging position.

  • Patent number: 5206984
Abstract: The present invention relates to a balance weight mounting apparatus for a tire wheel by which a balance weight can be automatically mounted on the tire wheel. A six-axes manipulator has a weight holder and hammer head provided at the distal end of the arm thereof. The weight holder and the hammer head can be moved by the operation of the manipulator to the location to which a balance weight is fed by a parts feeder and also can be moved within the plane perpendicular to the circumferential direction of a tire wheel supported by a tire wheel support unit. The balance weight of a predetermined weight fed by the parts feeder is gripped by the weight holder 32, abutted against that portion of the rim, on which this balance weight is to be mounted, of the tire wheel supported by the tire wheel support unit, and then mounted thereon by being driven by the hammer head.
