Patent number: 8431881Abstract: A night vision goggle system is shown, including optical modules, a heads-up display (HUD) module, and a camera module. Each module may be added to and removed from the system without structural, electrical, or optical damage to itself or the remaining modules. Each optical module takes input light at one end and provides an intensified image at the other. A heads-up display module (HUD) can provide an informational display in any of at least two of the optical modules or both. A camera module is capable of recording both the intensified image produced by a particular optical module, as well as the HUD information shown through that module with substantially no offset from the original display. Both the camera module and the HUD module are installable onto the same optical module at the same time, and can be installed on either (or in some embodiments, any) optical module.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2010Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignees: Kollsman, Inc., Night Vision CorporationInventors: Danny Filipovich, Jack C. Patent number: 7411194Abstract: An aviation vision apparatus. Its purpose assists a pilot's ability to fly an aircraft by providing increased visibility. The apparatus features an uncooled IR sensor for vision enhancement. An integrated window assembly is provided which permits the sensor to obtain its imagery. The apparatus also has an integrated aerodynamic enclosure. The apparatus features electronics responsible for window assembly window control functions and IR sensor control. The apparatus is a single line replaceable unit that receives control commands from the aircraft's head-down display or other control modules. The unit also provides for the video display.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2006Date of Patent: August 12, 2008Assignee: Kollsman, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan Everett, John A. Gagnon, Athanasios Pashos, Roberto Rodriguez, Richard Wolfe

Patent number: 7248950Abstract: A testing apparatus for determining the enhanced vision capabilities of a system that is designed to assist a pilot in detecting lights and ground features in night and low visibility conditions. One embodiment of the apparatus is suitable for laboratory or production facilities, the other embodiment is used for the flight line by installing it in the aircraft. A simulated pattern is presented by the apparatus wherein the enhanced vision system (EVS) can be calibrated. Further, fog can also be simulated over the spectral band of the EVS. Runway landing lights are also able to be simulated using a readily available light source.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2004Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Assignee: Kollsman, Inc.Inventor: Richard Wolfe

Patent number: 7072107Abstract: A modular binocular-like vision assembly (300) has individual interconnecting inner (320, 330) and outer (310, 340) optical modules. Each module is separately sealed and self-contained and includes image intensifier means for converting incoming light to an intensified visible image for presentation to the eyes of the observer in low light conditions. Electrical connectors are provided between the modules for permitting free flow of electrical power and information between the modules. Attaching system is provided for removably attaching the outer modules to the inner modules to deliver a panoramic field of vision and removal of any single module from the assembly will not break any pressure seals or degrade the optical performance of the removed module or the remaining modules.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2001Date of Patent: July 4, 2006Assignees: Night Vision Corporation, Kollsman, Inc.Inventors: Danny Filipovich, Jack C. Fiore, Ofer Robert Ziv, Philip Uy

Patent number: 7040328Abstract: A combination fluid and air washing apparatus for washing a vehicle's viewing surface. The apparatus includes a housing, a nozzle assembly with at least one fluid nozzle and at least one air nozzle corresponding to each of fluid nozzles. A shaft is pivotally attached to the housing. The fluid and air nozzles are adjacently attached to the shaft and point towards the vehicle viewing surface. The air nozzle points lower on the vehicle viewing surface than the fluid nozzle. A pressured lines provides pressured air to the washing apparatus. The air compressor provides pressured air to the fluid reservoir forcing the fluid through the fluid nozzle and the air compressor simultaneously provides pressured air through the line to the air nozzle. Thus, the vehicle's viewing surface with the fluid and the fluid washes the vehicle's viewing surface and the air dries the vehicle's viewing surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2002Date of Patent: May 9, 2006Assignee: Kollsman, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth S. Patent number: 6639706Abstract: An optical path switch and a method of using thereof, for creating two optical pathways for input light. The switch is composed of two polarizers that polarize the input light and two polarization rotators each having two positions. The polarization rotators position translates to one of two the optical pathways. Additionally, the optical path switch has an image enhancement device for producing an enhanced image of the light, and a beam splitter that directs the light to two channels. The optical path switch works by polarizing the light by one of the two polarizers producing an output, following, the output is then directed through the beam splitter where the output is directed towards the two channels. Next, the output is then filtered through the two polarization rotators and to the other of the two channels where the positions of the two polarization rotators switch the optical pathways.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2002Date of Patent: October 28, 2003Assignee: Kollsman, Inc.Inventors: Ofer R.
