  • Publication number: 20120145815
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are for a system for crushing a material that may include a compaction chamber and a screw assembly that generally extends between the proximal and distal ends of the compaction chamber. A portion of the screw assembly increases in diameter along a length of the shaft of the screw assembly such that the system is configured to crush material between the compaction chamber and the portion of the screw assembly that increases in diameter. The portion of the screw assembly that increases in diameter may be integral with the shaft of the screw assembly. An exemplary embodiment of the system may also include at least one wear member that is removably associated with the distal portion of the compaction chamber such that the wear member may assist with the crushing of material.

  • Publication number: 20120145012
Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of a screw crusher may utilize a cantilevered screw with an inverse tapered shaft with flighting for conveying the product up the length of the shaft for compression. The screw may include an end flight configured to provide thrust to the product for further conveyance beyond the end of the screw or additional compaction when utilized with a receiving container. An exemplary embodiment of the screw crusher may utilize a single moving element in relation to a cylindrical tube for compression of the product. Also, an exemplary screw compactor may utilize a fixed replaceable restrictor tube section and an efficient screw design making it more cost effective and efficient to operate than other known compactors. Furthermore, an example of the screw crusher may be fitted with perforated or the preferred ā€œVā€ Slotted tube to perform liquid removal in addition to the compaction of the material.

  • Publication number: 20030192970
Abstract: A method and system for treating material, especially medical waste, municipal solid waste, and paper, such as newsprint. The system includes an input component having an air lock and shredder; a pressurized treatment component which includes a feed screw which feeds material into an extrusion tube that is connected to a rotating autoclave vessel, a pressurized outlet hopper, and an exit feed screw which feeds sterilized material into an outlet extrusion tube. The system also includes a drying and cooling component which receives material from the outlet extrusion tube, tumbles the material in a drum to break it up, cool it and release moisture, and an evacuation blower which conveys moist air in the drum through a condenser. In a preferred embodiment, the autoclave vessel is sealed at its inlet and outlet ends in part by dynamic plugs of material which progress through the inlet and outlet extrusion tubes, but at the same time form compacted, airtight barriers which seal the autoclave vessel.
