  • Patent number: 7245663
Abstract: Improved efficiency in transmission of FGS encoded video data is achieved by reducing the transmission of overhead information items necessary to decode the received video data. After establishing an initial or first set of criteria for selectively enhancing areas within an image, each subsequent transmission frame includes an indicator that informs a receiving system to decode the current frame using the previously established criteria. The initial criteria include shift factor values specifying selectively enhanced areas of an image; position, displacement vector, size and enhancement factor for at least one area of interest with in an image; and known fixed values contained at both the transmitting and receiving systems.

  • Publication number: 20060262964
Abstract: The invention applies to the verification of the identity of an object based on measurements of a physical characteristic of said object. In an enrollment phase, an object with known identity is measured. The resulting enrollment measurement is stored for future reference. Then in the verification phase, an object presented for verification is measured, and the verification measurement is compared with the enrollment measurement to decide whether or not the two measurements originate from the same object. According to the invention, the enrollment and the verification measurements are modeled as two realizations of a first random variable affected by an enrollment noise and a verification, noise respectively, said enrollment and verification noises being a realization of a second and a third random variable, respectively, said first, second and third random variables having known distributions.

  • Publication number: 20050155698
Abstract: Applying the method of manufacturing a polymeric foil (30) having partly embedded inorganic particles (19) results in the polymeric foil (30) being suitable for use as a movable element (3) in a display panel (21). The method starts by embedding inorganic particles (19) partly into a release layer (32) which covers a substrate (31). This product (37) is covered with a layer of polymeric material (18), which is solidified to obtain the polymeric foil (30). By removing the release layer (32), the polymeric foil (30) having a surface with a roughness brought about by the partly embedded inorganic particles (19) is set free.

  • Patent number: 6798836
Abstract: Device for transmitting television pictures in the form of transform coefficients and motion vectors. The motion vectors of a sub-picture are converted (20) into a series of difference vectors and a reference vector. The series is subsequently applied to a variable-length encoder (22) which encodes a run of zero values and a subsequent non-zero value into a code word of variable length. The variable-length encoder may be the same as the encoder which encodes the coefficients.
