  • Patent number: 6016751
Abstract: A method for monitoring the amount of moisture sprayed on a moving material web or a roller across their width, with the width being divided into individual measurement areas includes a measuring step, a storing step and further measuring steps. The measurement is made of local droplet flow of the sprayed liquid in the individual measurement areas, storing the measured values as set values, and again measuring the local droplet flow and comprising it to the set values. The device used includes a counting device and an evaluation unit. The counting device registers droplets of the liquid sprayed on the moving material web in a respective one of the individual measurement areas, and generates a signal per registered droplet which is supplied to the evaluation unit.

  • Patent number: 5546679
Abstract: An installation for the thermal drying of strips, sheets, etc., which are conveyed along a path over guide elements past dryer unit in a drying device. The installation has a cooling unit whose coolant is fed through suitable coolant lines to the guide elements in the drying zone and to the dryer units, from where the coolant is fed to a heat exchanger. The installation also has an air extractor to extract the air from the drying zone. In order to provide a space saving installation, the heat exchanger in the cooling unit is located in the vicinity of the air-extraction aperture of the air extractor, adjacent to the drying zone.

  • Patent number: 4680965
Abstract: A process for the continuous measurement of the density of a liquid by means of an aerometer body swimming in the liquid is characterized by the feature that the liquid is allowed to flow periodically at an increased flow rate past the aerometer body in order to clean the same of foreign matter, gas bubbles or the like disturbing the measuring, with the measuring procedure being interrupted during this cleaning period. In an apparatus for performing this process, an aerometer body is surrounded in a measuring vessel by a partition wall at a small distance therefrom, and line is provided, through which liquid to be measured may be introduced at a relatively high flow rate into the space between the aerometer body and the partition wall in order to periodically clean the aerometer body.

  • Patent number: 4598870
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the powder-dusting of moving objects, particularly flat substrates in the form of webs and sheets of paper, plastic or textile with a nozzle housing made of electrically insulating material, with at least one nozzle provided on the housing for releasing a powder air stream laden with dusting powder and with metallic electrodes and counter-electrodes disposed on the housing for producing an electrical high-voltage field. To obtain a powder air stream with powder particles as neutral as possible, it is envisaged that at least one electrode and a counter-electrode cooperating with the latter are disposed on the outside of the housing in the vicinity of the nozzle whereby an electrical high AC voltage is applied to the electrode and counter-electrode, whereby, after being released from the nozzle, the powder air stream penetrates the thus produced high AC voltage field on the outside of the housing.

The particles are electrically neutral in the stream. A charging electrode is located below the substrate in the area where the gas stream impinges on the substrate. The substrate is advancing lengthwise, and a counterelectrode is located below the substrate in the direction of advance from the charging electrode. Preferably the direction and velocity of the gas stream near the substrate and direction and velocity of the substrate itself are approximately equal. Also in the preferred form, a grounded collecting pan is located beneath the electrodes.
