  • Patent number: 5375394
Abstract: Method for sealing a bottle by deforming a crown cap put on a bottle mouth, in which a holding elmement positions the crown cap on the bottle mouth during a positioning phase. In a sealing phase the crown cap is inserted in a sealing end of the sealer through a conical inlet region, is deformed thereby and fixed on the bottle. After deformation of the crown cap, a rejecting element rejects the crown cap from the sealing end during a rejection phase. To seal the bottle during the sealing phase almost without any head-pressure and in a simple way without breaking the bottle, the holding element holds the crown cap during the positioning and sealing phase basically without any pressure on the bottle mouth and during the following sealing phase the rejecting element is biased for rejecting the crown cap during the rejection phase.

  • Patent number: 5368151
Abstract: Rows of bottles are conveyed on parallel running belts. Closed loop flexible members such as roller chains, run in vertical planes along the longitudinal edges of the belts in the same direction as the belts. The closed loop chains have stabilizing devices mounted to them for stabilizing the bottles in each row as they move along on the belts beyond a bottle infeed region. The stabilizing devices each constitute a pair of fingers that are pivotally mounted to pins that stand up from the closed loop chains and are spring biased so that they diverge at a predetermined angle from each other when they are not restrained from doing so. As the sets of fingers are carried around on the chain, they reach a region where the bottles are deposited on the belts. At least in this region, the fingers of the stabilizing devices arrive between parallel plates which cause the fingers to pivot towards each other in an overlapping relationship so that they are clear from the pathway defined by the belts.

  • Patent number: 5353915
Abstract: A plurality of parallel infeed conveyor belts increase in length from the shortest to the longest in length increments corresponding to the length of groups of equal numbers of containers in rows on the belts. The groups are in multiple file arrangement initially and are translated respectively to the end of each belt to effect disposing the groups in series and offset but parallel relationship. The groups are then advanced together to aligned belts of an intermediate conveyor to arrive at a conversion region wherein all groups that are offset relative to a group on one intermediate conveyor belt are shifted laterally to alignment with the one group so the formerly parallel groups become arranged in single file in condition for being conveyed further.

  • Patent number: 5308160
Abstract: In a process for the mixing of beverage components, in particular syrup and water, in which a first component is introduced from a storage chamber into a measuring chamber with a specific volume and a second component is metered in accordance with the volume and the desired mixing ratio and both components are then discharged into a collecting chamber, when the measuring chamber can only partly be filled upon the introduction of the first component from an insufficiently filled storage chamber, the amount of the first component introduced into the measuring chamber is measured and the second component is subsequently metered according to the measured amount of the first component. In this fashion, small residual amounts of syrup can be conveniently processed with a consistently high mixing accuracy.

  • Patent number: 5295517
Abstract: A process and device for filling a vessel with a liquid. The vessel is placed on a lifting plate and guided up to a filler spout a predetermined distance measured from its base, the vessel's opening being lifted into a sealed filling position below the filler spout. The vessel is filled up to a predetermined filling level by opening a valve associated with the filler spout, whereupon the supply of liquid is terminated, and a volume of liquid still present between the valve and the filling level flows into the vessel. This after-flowing liquid volume is controlled as a function of the vessel height so that in the case of a vessel having a height smaller than a mean vessel height there is an afterflow of a larger volume of liquid than in the case of a greater vessel height where the afterflow is of a smaller volume of liquid.

  • Patent number: 5293909
Abstract: Apparatus for mixing beverage components, in particular sirup and water, having two separate reception chambers which receive the components and are each provided with an inlet and an outlet. To improve the mixing results in such an apparatus in a constructionally simple way, the inflow of a first component, in particular water, to a first reception chamber is first passed through a second reception chamber filled with a second component, in particular sirup, and then through a transition portion arranged between the first and second reception chambers, the transition portion having a reduced cross-sectional area in comparison with the cross-sectional area of the first reception chamber, before it flows into the first chamber. The component within the second reception chamber is the entrained in the component flowing into the first reception chamber. Thereafter the mixture of the components is discharged from the first and second reception chambers by flowing it out of the second reception chamber.

  • Patent number: 5290388
Abstract: In a labelling machine comprising at least one plate (1), which is adapted to carry out controlled rotations, and a plunger (2), which is adapted to carry out controlled upward and downward movements, the object to be labelled, e.g. a bottle (24), being fixed between said plate and said plunger such that it is secured against rotation relative thereto, the plunger has associated therewith a rotating means (3), which will rotate said plunger to a specific angular position and/or fix it in said angular position, if the plunger is not in contact with the object to be labelled. However, if the plunger is in contact with the object to be labelled, it will be decoupled from said rotating means, whereupon it can rotate freely together with the object to be labelled, which is driven by the plate. Such a rotating means can be established with the aid of simple structural means and permits a manifold use of asymmetric plungers having a preferred position. This is the case e.g.

  • Patent number: 5219405
Abstract: A device for filling PET bottles employs a cam driven vertically movable carriage mounted on the outside of the liquid storage tank adjacent each filler valve inside of the tank. A bracket mounted to the lower end of each carriage has a flat plate extending horizontally under a filler valve. A bottle gripper, having an open side slot for engaging under the collar near the mouth of a PET bottle, is suspended on two bolts which extend slidably through the flat plate. Normally uncompressed springs are interposed between the heads of the bolts and the top of the plate to hold the gripper against the bottom of the flat plate. A cam lifts the carriage after the gripper engages a bottle under its collar to initiate a seal between the bottle mouth and filler valve and as the carriage continues upward by a small amount for latching to the tank. The springs are compressed and a gap forms between the flat plate and the gripper. The plate compresses the spring which generates the force to increase the sealing force.

  • Patent number: 5215622
Abstract: The invention is used in a labeling machine for applying liquid to the surface of the bottles after the labels are applied for the purpose of rendering scratches, abrasions, chipping and chafing of the bottle surfaces invisible. To minimize the space taken by the combination of the labeling machine and the new liquid applicator device, the device is associated with the outfeed starwheel of the labeling machine. The liquid applicator device includes a fixed arcuate friction and applicator surface on which the bottles roll by reason of being orbited in the outfeed starwheel and, while rolling, the bottles receive their coating of liquid from the applicator surface. The applicator surface is spongy and maintains a coating of the liquid on it which is applied to the surface by means of spray nozzles which are timed to spray the applicator surface by projecting a fanshaped spray through the space between successive bottles as the bottles are moving orbitally by the rotating outfeed starwheel.

  • Patent number: 5188491
Abstract: Feed screws are used for container filling machines in order to separate a series of approaching containers at a specific distance from each other. Feed screws for non-rotationally symmetrically shaped containers are milled with a milling tool rotating at a high rpm, the shaft of which is arranged parallel to the longitudinal axis of the feed screw that rotates at a lower rpm. To avoid feed screw flank errors, the rotating milling tool is moved up and down in an oscillating manner, so that a milling tool can be used, the contours of which agree exactly with the associated cross sectional area of the containers which are to be handled. The first shaft of the milling tool is attached to a sliding carriage, which is movably guided in an upward and downward direction by means of a crank mechanism.
