Abstract: A recliner mechanism for a reclinable vehicle chair having a back frame pivotally mounted to a seat frame. The recliner mechanism includes a pair of members pivotally attached between the seat and back frames and relatively extensible and retractable to adjust the angle of inclination of the back frame to the seat frame. One of the members includes an elongate slot having a plurality of detents, and a handle is pivotally carried by the other member. The handle includes an element extending through and freely longitudinally slidable in the slot in release position of the handle. In a locking position of the handle the element is located within one of the detents and holds the back frame in a fixed position of adjustment relative to the seat frame.

Abstract: A reclinable vehicle chair having a seat frame and a back frame which are adapted to be folded flat for shipping and storage. The back frame can be pivoted to an upright position and rigidly held there by a disconnectably mounted interconnecting member. The chair structure enables conversion of the chain to a reclining type by interchanging a recliner mechanism for the interconnecting member. A method is disclosed to effect such conversion.

Abstract: Retractable apparatus for supporting an element such as the arm rest of a seat. The arm rest is movable from a retracted position adjacent the seat to an extended position above the seat by pulling it upwardly, slightly inclining it to one side, and then pushing it downwardly to lock it in the extended position. The apparatus comprises a pair of elongated members adapted for attachment to the seat and to the seat arm, respectively. One member is telescopable within the other and each includes complemental engagement portions freely movable relative to one another during movement of the arm rest to its extended position. The engagement portions are engageable when the arm rest is tipped to one side, thereby misaligning the longitudinal axes of the elongated members and locking the arm rest in the extended position. Various forms of engagement portions are disclosed.

Abstract: A convertible sofa bed and cover particularly adapted for use in recreational vehicles. The bed includes a frame, a seat portion including a seat cushion, a back portion including a back cushion and adapted to be moved between a horizontal bed position and an upright sofa position, and a pivot apparatus for pivoting the back portion between the bed position, in which the seat and back cushions abut, and the sofa position, in which the lower terminus of the back cushion is located above and forwardly of the rearward terminus of the seat cushion. The bed includes a flexible cover attached to the upper or support surfaces of the seat and back cushions to cover the juncture or crevice between them in their bed position. The cover is attached to the seat cushion forwardly of the juncture and extends rearwardly to form a flap which covers the lower face of the back cushion when the back cushion is in its sofa position.

Abstract: A convertible sofa bed particularly adapted for use in recreational vehicles. The bed includes a frame, a seat portion, and a back portion pivotally connected to the seat portion for movement between a horizontal and an upright position. A pair of pivot assemblies at opposite sides of the seat frame each includes front and rear pivot arms, one attached to the seat portion and the other to the back portion. A connecting link attached to the arms constrains them against movement independently of one another. The arms and connecting link are arranged and oriented to pivot one way to project the seat portion forwardly and move the back portion to a horizontal position to form a bed. Pivoting them the opposite way retracts the seat portion and moves the back portion to an upright position, converting the structure from a bed to a sofa.
