Abstract: A lubricant supply safety system for a machine comprises a reservoir for lubricating oil, a hydraulic motor driving one or more feeder pumps supplying lubricating oil from the reservoir to various points in the machine, a first pump for supply of lubricating oil from the reservoir to drive the hydraulic motor under normal operating conditions, and a second pump driven by the machine for supply of lubricating oil from the reservoir to drive the hydraulic motor in the event of failure of the first pump.
Abstract: A refiner for processing fibrous material comprising a frame, a stator, a rotor, a shaft assembly, a stator support, a stator support receiving means adapted to receive the stator support, the improvement comprising mounting the stator support receiving means on the rotor for movement of said stator towards or away from said rotor.
Abstract: A method of controlling the maceration of wood chips in a plug screw feeder having an inlet and an outlet, a compression device between said inlet and outlet, a variable speed screw disposed in the compression device, a force feed device connected to the plug screw feeder inlet, a variable speed force feed screw disposed in the force feed device, comprising the steps of introducing wood chips into the force feed drive and the plug screw feeder controlling the speed of the variable speed screw in the plug screw feeder, controlling the speed of the force feed screw disposed in the force feed cylinder to obtain the desired degree of fiber dislocation in the wood chips.
Abstract: An axial bearing system is provided for a radially mounted shaft having two hydrostatic axial bearings capable of axial movement relative to a surrounding bearing housing. The bearing system comprises a flange having a pressure surface rigidly attached to the shaft at a substantially right angle. An annular chamber bearing has a surface facing towards the pressure surface which surface contains an annular groove and forms together with the pressure surface inner and outer sealing gaps to either side of the annular groove. The annular chamber bearing together with the bearing housing forms a hydraulically pressurized chamber which forces the annular chamber bearing against the pressure surface.
Abstract: A method of rinsing a slurry contained between a pair of converging mesh belts comprising the steps of splitting the slurry into two streams, each stream adjacent one of the converging mesh belts, introducing a stream of rinsing fluid between the two slurry streams, the point of introduction of the rinsing fluid between the two slurry streams is not more than 12 inches before and not more than 72 inches after the slurry streams contact the converging mesh, and creating compressive forces within the pair of mesh belts, which compressive forces continue for a distance of at least 24 inches after introduction of the stream of rinsing fluid.
