Patent number: 9567982Abstract: Described are ice shields and methods for protecting tower-mounted equipment. An ice shield assembly can include an ice shield. The ice shield can include a base, a blade structure attached to the base, at least one support member on each side of the blade structure attached on a first end to the blade structure and on a second end to the base, and a beam attached to at least one of the base, the blade structure, and the support members. The ice shield assembly can include a mounting bracket engaged with the beam that can permit vertical translation of the ice shield with respect to the mounting bracket. The ice shield can include a shock absorber configured to arrest relative motion between the ice shield and the mounting bracket by dissipating kinetic energy in the ice shield assembly.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2016Date of Patent: February 14, 2017Assignee: Laufer Wind Group LLCInventors: Paul F. Patent number: 9405001Abstract: Described are radar systems and methods. A transmit pulse is generated by the radar system. A first portion of the transmit pulse is processed by the radar system to form transmit pulse data. A second portion of the transmit pulse is directed by the radar system into a monitored volume. A return signal is received by the radar system, the return signal at least partially comprising a portion of the second portion of the transmit pulse reflected by one or more objects in the monitored volume. The return signal is processed, by the radar system, to form return signal data.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2015Date of Patent: August 2, 2016Assignee: Laufer Wind Group LLCInventors: Hamilton Morris Stewart, Eric David Laufer

Patent number: 8665138Abstract: A system for preventing light pollution includes one or more radar units that monitor for vehicles in a volume surrounding or containing one or more obstructions having one or more obstruction lights. A master radar detection processing unit receives sensed radar detection information from the one or more radar units with associated radar signal processing units and determines whether a vehicle is present within the monitored volume. A plurality of obstruction light controller units are interconnected in a network, such as a wireless network. Each obstruction light controller unit turns on an obstruction light when a vehicle enters the monitored volume or a failure condition exists, and turns off the obstruction light when the vehicle has vacated the monitored volume and no failure condition exists. The one or more radar units can transmit sensed radar detection information to a master radar detection processing unit via the network.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2011Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Laufer Wind Group LLCInventor: Eric David Laufer
