Patent number: 8713730Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to medical transport devices, more particularly, to spineboards. In one embodiment, a spineboard includes an upper panel assembly joined to a lower panel assembly by one or more latch assemblies and one or more hinge assemblies. An upper moveable belt wrap about the upper panel assembly and is driven by a motorized drive roller while a lower moveable belt is wrapped about the lower panel assembly and driven by a separate motorized drive roller. The upper and lower moveable belts counter-rotate relative to one another. The upper moveable belt is used to load and unload an injured person from the spineboard while the lower moveable belt is used to advance the spineboard toward and away from the injured person.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2011Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Lawrence R. Patent number: 7938800Abstract: A needleshield assembly including an extensible frame, an actuator, a needle and a dispensing device attachment member is disclosed. The extensible frame is capable of moving from a collapsed position to an extended position upon pressure applied to the actuator. In the extended position, the extensible frame both protects the distal end of a needle and renders the needle immobile.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2009Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: Lawrence R. Patent number: 5814018Abstract: A needle point cover assembly for securely covering and protecting the needle point after a syringe has been used includes a cover in the form of an elongated hollow member that is open at one end for receiving the needle therein, and at its other end is mostly enclosed by an end wall having a hole through which the needle can pass. A lid encloses the otherwise open end of the cover member. The lid has a hole through which the needle may pass so that the needle may extend through both the lid hole and the hole in the end wall. When the syringe is being used to make an injection, the needle point projects through the hole in the end wall. After an injection has been made and the syringe is ready for disposal, a manually actuable extensible frame slides the cover to where its end wall is beyond the extremity of the needle point.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1997Date of Patent: September 29, 1998Assignee: Lawrence R. Patent number: 5695053Abstract: A storage case for a flat circular member such as a compact disc includes a plastic box that has top and bottom walls and a front end which is open so that the flat circular member may be inserted into the box between the top and bottom walls. A spring member inside the box adjacent its rear wall has one part that is fixedly secured to the box, and a movable part that when released can directly engage the peripheral edge of the flat circular member. The movable part of the spring member is normally stored in a retracted position behind a rib that extends inwardly from the top wall of the box. The top wall has a flexible portion behind the rib which is downardly depressible for releasing the movable part of the spring member so that it will then engage the compact disc and eject it from the open front end of the box.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1996Date of Patent: December 9, 1997Assignee: Lawrence R. Patent number: 5591133Abstract: A shield for hypodermic needles is disclosed which is preferably of unitary construction and made of a plastic such as polypropylene. The shield is preferably cylindrical and is formed as a sleeve with a hollow bore for receiving the cannula of a hypodermic needle assembly. The shield is fixed at the hub of the needle assembly and can be either attached to the hub using a method such as heat or sonic sealing, or it can be manufactured with the hub as a unit. The sleeve has an upper axially rigid portion toward the tip end of the cannula, a lower axially rigid portion at the hub end, and at least two displaceable portions between the upper and lower rigid portions. Each of the displaceable portions are further subdivided into at least two subportions by introducing slits into the displaceable portions. The sleeve has hinging portions at the interfaces between the rigid portions and the displaceable portions, and a hinging portion at the interface between the displaceable portions.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1994Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Lawrence R.
