Abstract: A pre-stressed concrete bridge using longitudinal load members of a single continuous beam including at least two types of concrete, one of which is ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) mix with a compressive strength exceeding 137.9 Mpa (20 ksi) and tensile strength exceeding 10.34 Mpa (1.5 ksi) in a region proximate to the support structure.
Abstract: A non-metallic armor structure having lightweight and being capable of withstanding multiple impacts without substantial degradation of the penetration resistance of the armor.
Abstract: An improved prestressed concrete bridge having internal and external tensioning tendons which follow approximately similar pathways which are not straight.
Abstract: A composite armor 10 is provided with a cellular structure 12 having a plurality of composite inserts 14 arranged in openings 20 provided in the cellular structure 12. A pair of laminate sheets are arranged on oppositely facing sides of the cellular structure 12 and covering the inserts 14. The laminate sheets 26 and 28 are bonded to the structure 12 and the inserts 14 by an adhesive. The cellular structure 12 includes a plurality of fibers extending continuously throughout the cellular structure 12.
Abstract: An improved prestressed concrete bridge having internal and external tensioning tendons which follow approximately similar pathways which are not straight.
Abstract: An improved box beam bridge and a method of construction are disclosed. The box beam bridge comprises a plurality of box beams for each lane structure of the bridge. Each of these lane structures are separately secured together and post-tensioned by means of a composite material strand. The separate lane structures are then brought together to complete the bridge width, with an interstitial box beam placed between the separate lane structures. Once arranged together, the separate lane structures and integrated interstitial box beam are secured together and post-tensioned by a second composite material strand that runs the entire width of the bridge.
Abstract: A structural fabric having a first fiber with a first ultimate strain and a second fiber with a second ultimate strain greater than the first ultimate strain, the first and second fibers being in the same plane. The invention is further directed to a structural fabric having a plurality of axial fibers and a plurality of first diagonal fibers braided with the axial fibers and oriented at a first braid angle relative thereto. The axial fibers include first and second fibers each with an ultimate strain. The ultimate strain of the second fiber again being greater than the ultimate strain of the first fiber. Additionally, the invention is directed to a concrete beam strengthened with the structural fibers of the present invention.
