Patent number: 8907683Abstract: For detecting within a communication range of an antenna a contactless data storage device which is configured for inductive coupling with an electromagnetic field emitted by the antenna, a return signal is detected (S1) at the antenna during emission of an electromagnetic field pulse. During amplitude build-up of carrier oscillation at the beginning of the electromagnetic field pulse, an evaluation signal is generated (S2) based on the return signal, and the data storage device is detected (S3) based on the evaluation signal. By detecting the presence of the data storage device based on an evaluation signal generated during amplitude build-up, the detection of the data storage device can be initiated before carrier oscillation of the electromagnetic field pulse is stable. Consequently, the width of the electromagnetic field pulse can be shortened and, therefore, energy consumption for detecting the presence of the data storage device can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2011Date of Patent: December 9, 2014Assignee: LEGIC Identsystems AGInventors: Peter Hausmann, Marcel Plüss, Matthias Schnaubelt

Patent number: 8740066Abstract: An authorization system (10) includes a reader (1) for a reader-card interaction (92) with a card (2), and a logic module configured to assign the reader (1) and the card (2) to each other and to make operable the reader-card interaction (92) based on authorization data comprising reader data and card data. The logic module is further configured to read via a non-contact interface (12.1) device data from an authorization storage device (5) and to assign the reader (1) to the card (2) based on the device data for making operable the reader-card interaction (92). The authorization storage device (5) is arranged spaced apart from the non-contact interface (12.1) at an essentially fixed distance (9), for example during the reader-device interaction (95). Using the device data makes it possible to enable efficiently the reader-card interaction (92) in case the reader data does not match the card data, for example.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2009Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: Legic Identsystems AGInventor: Klaus Ulrich Klosa

Patent number: 8643343Abstract: An electronic circuit comprising a circuit module, a capacitor connected to the circuit module and a shutdown line providing a shutdown signal to the circuit module for suspending the circuit module. The electronic circuit further comprises a switching module for switching the capacitor such as to reduce discharging of the capacitor, depending on the shutdown signal. Particularly, the switching module disconnects the capacitor from ground. Disconnection takes effect when the circuit module is suspended or in power down mode because of the shutdown signal being provided.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2010Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: Legic Identsystems AGInventor: Matthias Schnaubelt

Patent number: 8554795Abstract: A method of writing data into identification media of various types (IM-X, IM-Y) via assigned write/read stations WR in accordance with an embodiment of the present application includes a step wherein, a virtual, identification media-independent reference file system RFS is defined. All access keys RKi are replaced by a file system key FSK and all access rights ACi of subsections Bi are suspended and a file system FS, corresponding to the reference file system RFS, is initialized or written into the identification media: (FS(IM-X), FS(IM-Y)). In doing so, a file system starting point (FS-S(IM-X), FS-S(IM-Y)) is defined in the identification media (IM(FS) and in the assigned read/write stations WR(RFS) so that applications (App(RFS) corresponding to the virtual reference file system RFS can be written into the identification media and executed.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2004Date of Patent: October 8, 2013Assignee: Legic Identsystems AGInventors: Marcel Plüss, Peter Plüss, Klaus Ulrich Klosa

Patent number: 8390427Abstract: A reader device in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure includes an antenna connected electrically to a processing unit through an antenna connection element. The processing unit controls are configured to read data from a transponder module via an electromagnetic field. The reader device includes a user interface unit which is connected to the processing unit through the connection element and includes a data output part and/or a data input part. The data output part receives via the connection element reader data from the processing unit and outputs this data. The data input part receives via a data entry element user data and transmits this data via the connection element to the processing unit. Thus, user authentication data can be entered by the user and transmitted to the processing unit without the need for additional wiring between the user interface and the processing unit.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2009Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: Legic Identsystems AGInventors: Marcel Plüss, Peter Plüss, Alex Wyss

Patent number: 7598872Abstract: The invention relates to a method for recognizing identification media in the communication area of a write/read device functioning according to the principle of inductive coupling in the MHz range, wherein an antenna is used for transmitting and receiving HF signals, in addition to a circuit for transmitting HF signals with a standard transmitter power output and a logic circuit for evaluating communication between a write/read device and an identification medium. A short inquiry signal consisting of several fundamental components of the HF field and having a standard transmission power output is periodically transmitted via a transmission path and the antenna and a response signal is detected on the antenna. The response signal is compared to a reference signal and a communication signal is transmitted in order to recognize an identification medium in the event that the response signal is different from the reference signal.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2005Date of Patent: October 6, 2009Assignee: Legic Identsystems AGInventors: Marcel Plūss, Andreas Koch, Peter Hausmann

Patent number: 7172128Abstract: For operation of contact-less identification media in a system with contact applications for contact cards, an initialized converter module is connected in series as a read/write station. This converter module, on the one hand, executes a contact-less communication with initialized contact-less identification media and, on the other hand, a contact communication at a contact card interface to a host computer or to an application computer for the communication with a contact application of the system and the converter module translates the contact-less communication with respect to communication rules and information into a contact communication with contact information and vice versa and the initialization of the converter module is defined in a hierarchic authorization system. This makes possible a particularly simple and efficient introduction of contact-less identification media into existing contact card systems and—installations.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2002Date of Patent: February 6, 2007Assignee: Legic Identsystems AGInventors: Klaus Ulrich Klosa, Guy Petignat

Publication number: 20050086506Abstract: The method for the initialisation or extension of an application for the transmission of information associated with an application to terminals of a system with mobile data carriers, terminals and with a hierarchical authorisation system utilises application information, which is loaded onto mobile data carriers from a selected, authorised terminal. Subsequently, during the presentation of the data carriers at further terminals, the application information is transmitted to the terminals associated with the application such that thereupon the application is capable of being executed for authorised data carriers at the terminals. The terminals are also capable of being transformed into further authorised terminals for the further controlled propagation or deletion of the application information (“virus” principle).Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2002Publication date: April 21, 2005Applicant: LEGIC IDENTSYSTEMS AGInventor: Klaus Klosa
