  • Patent number: 10551546
Abstract: A head-tracking multiview display and a system provide a plurality of views of a scene as a multiview image. The plurality of views includes a set of primary views of the scene and a secondary view representing a perspective view of the scene that is angularly adjacent to the primary view set. The display and system are multibeam diffraction grating-based and configured to selectively provide the primary view set and an augmented set of views that includes the secondary view and a subset of the views of the primary view set based on a tracked position of a user or a user's head. At a first position the display is configured to provide the primary view set and at a second position the display is configured to provide the augmented view set.

  • Patent number: 10484674
Abstract: In a supersampling technique, an adjacent pair of pixels in a three-dimensional (3D) electronic display is driven based on angular combinations. In particular, a pixel in the pair is driven by an angular combination of a pixel in a 3D view of a 3D image and at least one product of a pixel in an intermediate 3D view and an associated weight. Moreover, the 3D views applied to the pair have different associated angular ranges with different principal angular directions, and the intermediate 3D view has an associated intermediate angular range with an intermediate principal angular direction that is between the principal angular directions. When viewing the 3D electronic display along a principal angular direction in the principal directions of the 3D view, a viewer sees the 3D view, and when viewing the 3D electronic display along the intermediate principal angular direction, the viewer sees the intermediate 3D view.

  • Patent number: 10459147
Abstract: Dual-direction collimation and a dual surface collimator provide dual-direction collimated light at a non-zero propagation angle. The dual surface collimator includes an entrance surface and a reflector surface each having a curved shape. The entrance surface is configured to refract incident light and the reflector surface is configured to reflect the refracted light back toward the entrance surface. The entrance surface is further configured to re-reflect the reflected light by total internal reflection toward an output aperture. Curved shapes and relative orientation of the entrance and reflector surfaces, in combination, are configured to convert the incident light into dual-direction collimated light having the non-zero propagation angle. A three-dimensional (3D) display includes the dual surface collimator, a plate light guide and an array of multibeam diffraction gratings to provide a plurality of light beams corresponding to different 3D view of the display.

  • Patent number: 10373544
Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) display driver includes a single buffer and a mapping circuit. The single buffer is configured to store a tiled image that includes a contiguously arranged plurality of tiles. Each tile represents a different 3D view of a 3D image. The different 3D views have associated angular ranges and principal angular directions. The mapping circuit is configured to access the stored tiled image and to map pixels from the different 3D views into pixels at corresponding locations in a composite image. The composite image is configured to spatially interleave the pixels from the different 3D views so that pixels from each of the different 3D views are distributed across the composite image. A 3D electronic display includes the mapping circuit.
