Abstract: An apparatus for opening drains and the like includes a suitable vacuum/pressure source such as the inlet/outlet ports of an enclosed motor driven fan, together with a control mechanism for selectively applying vacuum/pressure pulses to a partially or completely blocked drain for loosening and purging the blockage. A lightweight portable unit including vacuum/pressure sources, control mechanism, collection receptacle, and associated air pressure/vacuum ducts is disclosed.
Abstract: A drain clearing device and method comprising an elongated flexible member for positioning in a blocked drain line with the working end of the tool located beyond the blockage and having means for enlargement or deployment of the working end after the tool is positioned in the drain line so that the blockage in the line is removed by withdrawal of the tool. The method comprises the steps of positioning an enlargable or deployable tool in a drain line beyond the point of blockage, deploying the tool, and withdrawing the deployed tool from the drain line to remove the blockage.
Abstract: The invention discloses a method and apparatus for opening drains and the like, and includes a suitable vacuum/pressure source such as a household or industrial wet/dry vacuum cleaner with a control mechanism fitted to the vacuum cleaner or an intermediate receptacle for sequentially applying vacuum/pressure pulses to a clogged drain for loosening and purging the blockage occurring in the drain. The disclosure includes several fittings for applying the method and apparatus to a variety of drains.
