Abstract: A communication system and a method for performing short message services in the communication system are disclosed. The communication system includes: a radio link control (RLC) layer for dividing a data unit having a first length corresponding to short messages transmitted from a higher layer on a down link into data units having second lengths, and for reconstructing data units having third lengths transmitted from a lower layer on an up link into data units having fourth lengths; and a media access control (MAC) layer for multiplexing logical channels assigned for the data units having the second lengths on the down link with different logical channels, performing scheduling for the data units having the second lengths to obtain schedule messages, and demultiplexing transmission channels multiplexed from the lower layer on the up link.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for performing fast distributed sample acquisition (DSA). A spreader generates a data signal by spreading an incoming data stream over a range of spectrum according to a locally generated first main sequence, and samples the state sample of the main sequence. A sample spreader outputs a first state signal by spreading a symbol according to a locally generated first subsequence. A sample despreader reconstructs the transmitted binary orthogonal symbols by despreading the first state signal obtained from the sample spreader according to a locally generated second subsequence to detect the first main sequence state sample. A despreader compares the state sample obtained from the sample despreader with a locally generated state sample and makes correction on a local SRG to generate a second main sequence having new state. An incoming data stream is reconstructed by despreading the data signal obtained from the spreader according to the second main sequence.
Abstract: A system and method for detecting an error in a transmission of data through an ATM cell in a ATM switching system is disclosed. The present invention allows a system manager to easily detect errors as the errors occur in the ATM switching system.

Abstract: A video/audio alarm processing method and apparatus for a base station manager in a mobile radio communication system capable of classifying trouble state data of base station controllers and base stations by grades and informing to a user the trouble state as video and audio alarms in accordance with the classified grade of the trouble state data. According to the method, the data of a predetermined number of bits which is received from the base station controllers and base stations is converted and stored, and whether the trouble state data exists or not in the stored data is judged. Abstract: This invention relates to the method of doing a broadcast service of a short message in a communication system. According to the present invention, a transmission request message of a broadcast message including the name and telephone number of an information provider is received from the information provider through a message center. The transmission request message of the broadcast message processed in the message center is transmitted from the message center to a base station and therefrom to all terminals. The terminals receive the broadcast message including the information provider's name and telephone number and displays them on the display devices of the terminals. When the terminal user wants to communicate with the information provider, the terminal performs the process for communication between the information provider and the user by using the received information provider's telephone number.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for modifying channel information in a digital translator of a digital communication system so that when a broadcasting signal is transmitted using a transmitting channel different from a receiving channel, the channel information stored in the broadcasting signal can be appropriately modified according to the transmitting channel. A method of operating a digital communication system having a translator related to the present invention includes detecting a start time of a compressed data extracted from a transmitted digital TV broadcasting signal. Then, it is determined whether a channel information stored in the data is identical to the prescribed channel information. Abstract: In the preferred embodiment, the transmission length of the non-full rate frame is shortened frame in order for the mobile terminal to monitor other frequencies with a single receiver. Modulated symbols of non-full rate frame are transmitted with reduced repetition maintaining the sum of repeated symbol energy. Generally, for 1/n (n=2,4,8) length transmission, 1/m (m≧n) rate frame repeated m/n times and transmitted with n/m symbol energy of the full rate frame. The system may use rate limitation to generate a non-full rate frame. A position of the transmitted symbols may be randomized by a mobile specific predetermined random code to minimize interference between terminals different from each other. For intensive frequency scanning and synchronization signal transmission, non-transmitting period can be assigned for successive frames of some interval.
Abstract: Disclosed is a local multipoint distribution service(LMDS) system, in which the cost for installation and maintenance is lower comparing to a cable communication system, it takes a little time to install the system, and a variety multimedia communication services can be provided. According to one feature of the present invention, the LMDS system comprises a data/signal handler for multiplexing and modulating packet data received from a network, and for demodulating and demultiplexing an optical signal received; and at least one base stations for down-converting the multiplexed and modulated packet data into a radio frequency(RF) signal, and for converting an RF signal received into an optical signal so as to send to the data/signal handler.

Abstract: A point to multipoint radio service is disclosed which enables a mobile telephone network subscriber to transmit data simultaneously to a plurality of public switched telephone network subscribers. According to the present invention, a plurality of calls originate from the mobile telephone network subscriber, modems in an interworking function device are allocated with respect to the calls, and then wire modems and traffic paths of the PSTN subscribers are established corresponding to the originating calls after the modem allocation.
