    Abstract: A customer access module is provided for a media dispenser. The customer access module includes an accumulation box or receptacle used to accumulate media in the customer access module. The accumulation box or receptacle is rotatably installed to rotate through 360 degrees and includes first and second accumulation surfaces as well as an accumulation space. The accumulation space is in communication with the outside through an opening. The second accumulation surface has a width w smaller than a width of the media and is disposed adjacent to an edge of one side of the opening. The accumulation box or receptacle is rotated about an axis passing through centers of both side ends thereof and receives a driving force from a motor through a driving belt. A collector box or receptacle is installed below the accumulation box so as to collect the media that have not been taken by a customer.

    Abstract: A media sensing method for an automatic media dispenser for discriminating discharged media using minimum sensors is able to sense media which are discharged in abnormal status by discriminating skew of media, length of the media, thickness of the media, and a distance between successively discharged media using a feed sensor and a rotary variable differential transducer (RVDT) sensor installed on left/right sides of a transferring path on which the media are transferred after being discharged from a cassette as responding to a cash withdrawal request, and thereby an area for disposing the sensors can be reduced to minimize the dispenser, and the circuit can be constructed simply using the minimum sensors to reduce fabrication cost for the automatic media dispenser.

    Abstract: A media dispenser module for an ATM has a secure locking mechanism. The media dispenser module can include a casing that is separatably coupled to a discharge portion for media, including a media mounting portion, on which discharged media is mounted, and an opening portion for drawing the media mounted on the media mounting portion by a user. A door can move along a plane made by the opening portion by a door moving device for opening/closing the opening portion, and has a pair of catching portions formed on both sides of the media mounting portion respectively. A locking mechanism engages the catching portions when the door completely closes the opening portion so as not to open the door.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to an apparatus (i.e. an automatic teller machine) comprising an optical sensor. The optical sensor is configured to detect thickness of paper. Advantages of some embodiments of the present invention are that by determining a thickness of paper, it can be confirmed that two pieces of paper are not stuck together. For example, if two substantially identical pieces of paper are stuck together, then their thickness will be approximately twice the thickness of a single sheet. Accordingly, upon detection of two or more sheets of paper stuck together, a device, that automatically handles paper, may cause the sheets of paper to be separated.
