Abstract: A method and an apparatus for scalding of slaughtered poultry are described, for example chickens, hens, turkeys, ducks, or geese, prior to plucking thereof, where the birds while shackled by their feet are conveyed through a scalding chamber (2), preferably via a sluice device, in which chamber a precisely controlled heated atmosphere of humid, hot air is established by blowing in steam at the bottom of the scalding chamber, which air is recirculated and blown directly onto the poultry, and where the scalding period is determined by the length and course of the conveyor (8) and by the capacity and/or speed of the conveyor, where a scalding chamber (2) with a relatively large height is used, and where the scalding chamber conveyor (8) including its secondary nozzles (10) extends through two or more levels (stories).

Abstract: A method for gas stunning of poultry for slaughter is in which the poultry arrives at the poultry slaughterhouse, for example, in transport crates, where the poultry is subjected to gas after the poultry have been taken out of the transport crates, and where the poultry are conveyed by conveyors (18, 20, 24, 32) successively through a stunning chamber (8). The influence of the stunning gas for stunning of the poultry is adjusted in the stunning chamber by reducing or increasing by adjusting an effective length of at least one conveyor in the stunning chamber (8).

Abstract: A method and a device is disclosed for the preparation of poultry for picking wherein the bodies of the poultry are scalded. Water vapor (5) is introduced into a scalding compartment (2). The scalding compartment (2) is heated to a predetermined temperature. The bodies (9) of the slaughtered poultry are introduced into the heated scalding compartment (2), within the scalding compartment (2). At least one flow of the water vapor-air mixture (5?) is generated, and the flow is guided against predetermined regions of at least one of the bodies (9) of the poultry.
Abstract: A method and a system (2) for gas stunning of animals for slaughter is described, where the animals arrive at the slaughterhouse in transport crates (6), where gas stunning of the animals is effected while they are still in transport crates (6), and where the transport crates with the animals, a number of conveyors (12, 14, 18, 20), are conveyed successively through a stunning chamber (8), where the action of the gas for stunning of the animals is adjusted by shortening or prolonging the conveying time and/or the conveying route of the said transport crates (6) through the stunning chamber (8). It is possible to optimize stunning while at the same time considering all the parameters. If the stunning condition of the animals is not optimum, it is easy to prolong or shorten the conveying time and/or the conveying route through the stunning chamber.
