The public cloud storage service provider possessing a database containing policy decisions and metadata of the plurality of data objects. When data objects are uploaded to the cloud environment, the private data center is in possession of the data objects, the public cloud is not in possession of the data objects. The private data center is not in possession of the policy decisions and the metadata for the plurality of data objects, rather the public cloud storage service provider is. The public cloud storage service provider adapted to be communicatively linked to an end-user computing system by way of the controller/routing system.

Each dummy HDDs is constructed without expensive onboard chipsets that control the normal functionality of a standard HDD. By sharing expensive chipsets in a master components module (power module) money can be saved in building and selling the dummy HDD server. Embodiments envision a power module possessing the needed chipset functionality that is missing in a dummy HDD. The power module can be made to move from dummy HDD to dummy HDD supplying the necessary chipset in a shared manner when data is being stored or retrieved for client or end-user.

Abstract: A method for securing user data that is stored to a tape cartridge having a medium auxiliary memory (MAM) is described. When user data is sent to a tape library from a client, the tape library sends a request to a cloud based key management service for a data key to encrypt the user data and an encrypted data key that corresponds to the data key. The data key is used to encrypt the user data which is then stored to the tape cartridge and the encrypted data key is stored to the MAM. Upon decrypting the encrypted user data, the encrypted data key is extracted from the MAM and sent to the cloud based key management service where it is used to produce the data key from the cloud based key management service which is then sent to the tape library. When the tape library is in possession of the data key, the encrypted data in the tape cartridge can then be decrypted and sent to a requester of the user data.

Abstract: In certain instances, a data management application (software application) that manages moving data files, and the like, from a primary high-speed storage system. An end-user can configure the data management application for particular files via management policies. Based on the management policies, after a file is migrated from the primary storage system to a targeted secondary storage system, a breadcrumb pointing to a webpage for the migrated file is left behind in the primary storage system. The webpage can be used to manage the migrated file, such as moving the migrated file back to the primary storage system.

Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for detecting anomalies in computer network traffic with fewer false positives and without the need for time-consuming and unreliable historical baselines. Upon detection, traffic anomalies can be processed to determine valuable network insights, including health of interfaces, devices and network services, as well as to provide timely alerts in the event of attack.

Abstract: Due to slow download speeds from a cloud server to an end-user and the high costs associated therewith, described is a private environment that manages and utilizes resources provided by a public cloud and the storage horsepower of a private server. Certain embodiments envision syncing data objects across at least one cloud data bucket located in a public cloud and at least one server data bucket located in at least one private server. Certain aspects explore using a software platform that manages syncing data from a cloud data bucket to a server data bucket by way of asynchronous notifications from the cloud data bucket to the software platform. However, syncing data in the opposite direction from the server data bucket to the cloud data bucket is by way of direct syncing and not through asynchronous notifications. Conflict resolution is also described when two different data object versions are uploaded to two different data buckets before the data objects can be synced across the data buckets.

The centralized server possessing an authoritative Bloom filter series comprising at least a plurality of Bloom filters each with successive Bloom filter entries that periodically provide and update a copy of the authoritative Bloom filter series at each of the clients. Each client checks to see if a data file is present locally by searching for a corresponding Bloom filter entry in the copy of the Bloom filter series before seeking the data file in the centralized server.

The block storage device includes blocks, each one possessing a logical block address (LBA) unique to that block. The method includes providing a deduplication pathway, including a deduplication data structure (DDS), and a block indirection pathway, including a block indirection data structure (BIDS). When receiving an electronic file, if deduplication is desired for the electronic file, then processing the electronic file only through the deduplication pathway, and, otherwise, processing the electronic file only through the block indirection pathway.

Abstract: A magazine-based data storage library in connection with a disk drive-based archive storage system is described that essentially generates parity data for tape formatted data streams (stored to tape cartridges) that do not align by way of data blocks or file marks. Data streams intended for tape storage sent to tape cartridges are also sent to a disk drive storage system via an encoder where parity of the data streams can be generated. More specifically, the encoder digitally formats tape blocks and tape marks (as well as other tape formatted structure) in a digital stream of data that can be added to other encoded digital streams of data to generate parity. To reconstruct a specific tape cartridge from a tape set, the encoded data from each of the tapes in the tape set are subtracted from the parity data and the remaining encoded data is decoded and sent to a designated tape cartridge.
