Abstract: A method for locking a hydraulic actuator in a predetermined position and a locking hydraulic actuator are provided. The method includes the steps of supplying hydraulic fluid to a forward chamber in the hydraulic actuator, transferring the hydraulic fluid from the forward chamber into a forward moiety of the rearward chamber in the hydraulic actuator, and sealing the hydraulic fluid in the forward moiety of the rearward chamber to accomplish the locking function. Conversely, the actuator lock is released by the application of fluid supply pressure to the rearward variable chamber.
