  • Patent number: 5979999
Abstract: An electrohydraulic braking system for motor vehicles with a brake master cylinder which can be actuated by a brake pedal. A wheel brake is coupled with at least with one vehicle wheel. The wheel brake can be connected with the brake master cylinder in order to subject the wheel brake to pressurized hydraulic fluid. A hydraulic pump, and a hydraulic pressure accumulator supplied by the pump, form an alternative source of pressurized hydraulic fluid which can be supplied to the wheel brake through a control valve arrangement in a controlled manner in order to subject the wheel brake to pressurized hydraulic fluid. A shut-off valve is arranged between the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic pressure accumulator in order to selectively make or shut-off a connection between the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic pressure accumulator to permit the hydraulic pump, in certain situations, to rapidly pressurize the braking system without having to simultaneously recharge the hydraulic pressure accumulator.

  • Patent number: 5969443
Abstract: An electromagnetic actuating device comprises a solenoid coil to which a control current can be applied and an armature associated with the solenoid coil which is adapted to carry out movements which are dependent upon a control current flowing through the solenoid coil and a spring arrangement for biassing the armature into opposite directions, with a holding position being defined which is assumed by the armature at a holding current through the solenoid coil, with the holding current flowing through the solenoid coil being variable to a higher value or to a lower value with the armature not leaving the holding position, and both the higher and the lower current value being able to be dimensioned in such a manner that interference influences on the magnetic and spring forces which actuate the armature do not bring the armature from its holding position into an actuated position which is different from the holding position.

  • Patent number: 5940262
Abstract: A control circuit for an electromagnetically operable fuel control valve of a vehicle engine includes a tank capacitor which upon closure of first and second controllable switches supplies current to the winding of the valve to achieve a high rate of rise of current in the winding and rapid operation of the valve. Following operation of the valve it is maintained in its operated state by current chopping action, the current rise being achieved by drawing current from a low voltage source through a third controllable switch. The current fall is at a high rate and the resultant high voltage induced in the winding is utilized to recharge the tank capacitor.

  • Patent number: 5937649
Abstract: A brake master cylinder (10) for a hydraulic vehicle brake system has a master cylinder housing (32) and at least one pressure chamber (40) designed therein. Connected to the pressure chamber (40) is a hydraulic fluid reservoir which, furthermore, is provided for connection to a precharge pump of a brake pressure regulating system. Moreover, the brake master cylinder (10) has a hydraulic fluid return connection (30) which makes a fluid connection between the delivery side of the precharge pump, the reservoir and the at least one pressure chamber (40). A throttle (60) is arranged in this liquid connection, said throttle not impeding a hydraulic fluid stream out of the reservoir into the at least one pressure chamber (40) and throttling a hydraulic fluid stream from the return connection (30) into the reservoir. The throttle (60) makes it possible to cause the precharge pump to act on the at least one pressure chamber (40), without an electromagnetic valve being interposed.

  • Patent number: 5924435
Abstract: A method of energizing an electromagnetically operable valve which comprises a valve member movable into engagement with a seating when a winding is energized comprising connecting the winding to a DC supply to achieve a rapid rate of rise of current. The current is controlled at the peak value and is then reduced to a low value after an initial movement of the valve member. The valve member continues its movement towards the seating and the current is restored prior to engagement of the valve member with the seating to substantially eliminate bouncing of the valve member away from the seating.

  • Patent number: 5864775
Abstract: A rotary position transducer comprises a sensor cooperating with a toothed wheel which has nominally evenly spaced teeth and which may, for instance, be mounted on the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. The times at which the teeth pass the sensor are stored. The time intervals between consecutive teeth are calculated, for instance during fuel cut-off operation of the engine. An error in the angular spacing between consecutive teeth is calculated for the time interval between consecutive teeth, a time interval between further teeth disposed symmetrically about the consecutive teeth, and the nominal angular spacing between the further teeth.

  • Patent number: 5855420
Abstract: An electronically controlled brake booster for a vehicle brake system including a housing having a vacuum chamber and a servo chamber separated from the vacuum chamber by a movable wall. The brake booster further includes a control valve operable by an electromagnet. The control valve is coupled to the wall for common relative movement with respect to the housing. The electromagnet is connectable to a control unit generating a drive signal to operate the electromagnet. A braking pressure generation unit is connected to the movable wall for generating a braking pressure for a brake of the vehicle in dependance on the position of the movable wall. The drive signal is generated in the control unit in dependance on a control parameter, the parameter being adjusted in dependance on a dead time of the braking pressure between supplying the electromagnet with the signal and a rising of the braking pressure in response thereto.

  • Patent number: 5848672
Abstract: A wear sensing system for the brake linings of a vehicle. Since the sensors are mounted within the brake mechanism, the reduction in the disc thickness must be taken into account to supply an accurate reading. A non-volatile memory stores the position of the brake before replacement and is compared to the position after replacement. However, the latter reading is established only after a predetermined number of brake applications to take up any starting clearances.
