  • Patent number: 7168846
Abstract: A rotary product processing device that has a frame made of endplates and at least one sidewall of one piece and unitary construction that encompasses a product processing chamber and product conveyor that is rotatively supported by a plurality of bearings that are each of one-piece, unitary and homogeneous construction. A drive cantilevers outwardly from an upraised mount of one of the endplates disposing it so it overlies part of the chamber. The endplate also carries and helps enclose a drivetrain that rotatively couples the conveyor to the drive. At least one of the bearings also functions as a thrust bearing for part of the drivetrain. Complementary angled tabs and slots facilitate assembly of the endplates and sidewall producing an integral frame. In one frame assembly method, angled lugs are received slots locating and helping self-fixture the endplates and sidewall enabling them to be attached along adjoining regions.

  • Publication number: 20040069151
Abstract: A frameless food blancher has a steel tank of generally U-shaped, transverse cross sectional shape and also has an open top with opposite sides. The opposite sides each have an upper edge bent inwardly and downwardly to form an upwardly facing water trough. A rigidifying steel member co-extensive in length with the trough is welded to it, and is also welded to the outer side of the tank. The trough and member form a cross section shape of triangular-box-cross-section and act to rigidify the sides. The blancher has opposite ends and an end plate is fabricated from sheet steel and has a main portion welded to each of the opposite ends of the tank. These plates also each having a leg portion integral with the main portion for supporting the blancher. The end plates are formed by being cut by a CNC laser machine which simultaneously forms a series of holes extending through the end plate.

  • Patent number: RE40232
Abstract: A method and rotary blancher for processing food product using a heat transfer medium and directed flows of a fluid that can comprise a liquid, a gas, a vapor or a combination thereof. The directed flows can be discharged from orifices or banks of orifices that are distributed around the food products in the blancher. The flows are discharged at a high flow rate, a high pressure, or a combination of both. Where a liquid is discharged, it preferably is discharged at a flow rate of at least 20 gpm and at least 30 psi. Where a gas is discharged, it is discharged at a flow rate of at least 60 CFM at a pressure of at least 2 psi or at a flow rate of at least 10 CFM at a pressure of at least 80 psi. If desired, discharged fluid can be recirculated to save energy. To help increase agitation and help break up clumps of food products in the blancher, direct-contact mechanical agitation devices, such as baffles, can be used.
