Publication number: 20030070746Abstract: Multilayer disposable pads for use as wipes or applicators in various applications, including the cosmetic and personal care fields and the medical field. The pads include an absorbent base pad and a flexible handle attached either to an intermediate barrier layer or to the base pad. To form the handle, handle forming material is mechanically folded, employing a pleating/folding machine, prior to being adhered to the barrier layer or to the base pad. In one embodiment, the handle includes a graspable portion made of two facing segments which may be joined along a distal folded edge, and two handle attached portions respectively joined to the facing segments along fold lines.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 12, 2002Publication date: April 17, 2003Applicant: M.J. Woods, Inc.Inventors: James M. Woods, Marilyn S. Woods

Patent number: 5771524Abstract: Multilayer disposable pads for use as wipes or applicators in various applications, including the cosmetics and personal care fields and the medical field. The pads include an absorbent base pad, an impervious barrier layer attached to the base pad, and a flexible handle attached to the barrier layer in a selective attachment area to define a handle attached portion and at least one handle graspable portion. The barrier layer may be attached to the base pad by being coated over the base pad without the use of adhesives, including being fused to the base pad when they are both made of a thermoplastic material. The handle attached portion may be fused to the barrier layer in an ultrasonic bonding process, again without the use of adhesive.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1996Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: M.J. Patent number: 5507906Abstract: The invention comprises a method for manufacturing a laminated pad in a cost-efficient manner. In one embodiment, the method comprises the steps of applying strips of adhesive to a first substrate and mounting the first substrate to a second substrate. Next, adhesive is applied to the entire width of a third substrate which is in turn mounted to the laminated first and second substrates to create a laminated sheet. The laminated sheet can be slit and then die cut into individual laminated pads. The pads which result from this process have a base pad, an intermediate layer which is adhered to the base pad and a top layer in which only a portion of the top layer is mounted to the intermediate layer.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1994Date of Patent: April 16, 1996Assignee: M. J. Woods, Inc.Inventors: James M. Woods, Marilyn S. Woods

Patent number: 5230119Abstract: A disposable hand held laminated pad suitable for the application or removal of liquids and other materials while shielding the hand of the user from the materials includes a base pad having a lower wiping surface and an upper attachment surface, a thin impervious shield portion coextensive with and attached to the upper attachment surface, and a thin handle secured at a lower edge to the impervious shield and extending upwardly therefrom for grasping between fingers of a hand for enabling use thereof without contacting the fingers with the material being applied or wiped. The impervious shield helps prevent contact between a user of the pad and a person on which the pad is being used.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1992Date of Patent: July 27, 1993Assignee: M. J.
