  • Patent number: 4967826
Abstract: A process for producing metal parts in accordance with the principle of squeeze or forge casting wherein a permanent mold (2) is provided having a mold cavity, a seal (4) is placed on an upper edge flange (5) of the mold surrounding the cavity opening (6), liquid metal (9) is introduced into the cavity, an upper die (3) is inserted (7) into the cavity such that the level of the liquid metal is raised until the higher-level cavity created by the seal (4) is filled, the metal is at least partially solidified, and the final shape of the part is produced by pressing (9) in the upper die, with deformation and spreading of the seal. The result is a completely dense workpiece of excellent dimensional stability which has the texture of a forged part and is correspondingly of very high strength.

  • Patent number: 4367655
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for measuring the closing and holding force on the moulding die or tool (6, 7) of a pressure diecasting or injection moulding machine of which the closing device comprises a toggle lever mechanism. Measurement of the closing and holding force takes place by way of measuring a deformation of that end plate (4) on which the bars (1) and the toggle lever mechanism (10) are supported. The bars (1) and the toggle lever mechanism (10) transmit to the end plate (4) forces which produce a bending moment. The bending moment leads to a comparatively large deformation which is therefore readily measured by a measuring device (14, 24) associated with the end plate. By arranging the measuring device (14, 24) at the end plate (4), one also avoids damage to the measuring device (14, 24) by the movable parts of the closing device and access to the pressure diecasting or injection moulding machine by the operator is not impeded (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 4349044
Abstract: In a screw injection molding machine comprising a non-return device at the screwhead, said device comprising a pressure ring which is displaceable on the screwhead between front and rear abutments, is guided in the cylinder by its outer periphery and defines a flow gap with its inner periphery, a check valve for closing the flow gap against reverse flow is disposed near the front of the pressure ring whereby to facilitate rapid response of the non-return device without loss of material and obtain a substantially constant weight of injected material, particularly in the case of materials of low viscosity. The check valve may comprise a lightweight washer or valve ring.

  • Patent number: RE31566
Abstract: A metallurgical vessel includes a cylindrical portion which is supported on a ring carrying a tilting spindle which is mounted for pivotal tilting movement of the vessel. The vessel includes a frustoconical mouth portion at its upper end which terminates in a mouth ring of reinforced construction. The construction includes a cooling arrangement for the mouth portion which comprises a plurality of groups of coils which are wound around the mouth portion and which are advantageously wound in the form of a multistart screw thread. Each group of coils includes an inlet and an outlet which is connected to a distributor through suitable valves. This distributor in turn is connected through a main distribution pipe which extends through an opening in the tilting ring and the tilting spindle and is connected to a source of fluid cooling medium through a rotary seal at the outer end of the tilting spindle.
