  • Patent number: 5211516
Abstract: A cutting tool for expanding or opening up the diameter of boreholes includes at least one reversible knife plate with a front surface. The knife plate can be clamped with at least one clamping shoe into a recess provided in a cutter head. The front surface of the knife plate has at least two grooves which extend essentially parallel and preferably symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal axis of the knife plate. The grooves cooperate with projections provided on the contact surface of the clamping shoe facing the front surface of the knife plate and form a positively locked connection therewith.

  • Patent number: 5074721
Abstract: A hard metal cutting blade comprises a blade body having front and rear faces. The blade body is meant for engagement to a tool head and for rotation about a rotation axis. The blade is moved in a feed direction for the fine machining of bores that extend parallel to the rotation axis. The front face of the blade includes a recessed chip face which defines a cutting edge that has a main blade that is followed by a secondary blade. The main blade is divided into two regions, a first region that is almost flush or slightly inclined with respect to the secondary blade, and a second region which inclines at a greater angle and is spaced further from the secondary blade. An abrasion-resistant hard material coats the blade body. This material is ground away from the chip face, at least in the area of the secondary blade, to provide a radius of no more than 5 .mu.m for the edge of the secondary blade.

  • Patent number: 4975002
Abstract: There is disclosed a boring tool which exhibits a cutting head with several cutting plates arranged on the periphery of the cutting head. Each of the cutting plates are pressable with a fastening device against a shoulder of the cutting head. The distances of the cutting plates from the longitudinal axis of the cutting head are slightly different. The cutting heads are staggered with respect to one another in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The cutting plates (1, 2, 3) are formed in a circular shape and are arranged so that the force exerted during operation of the cutting head by the cutting plates compensate each other. The effective cutting edge sections, projecting in an axial plane, continually blend into one another. The boring tool is particularly suitable as a fine boring tool for the production of precision bores.

  • Patent number: 4971483
Abstract: A cutter plate is provided for precision working, especially of holes, which is constructed as a symmetrical polygon with at least four corners and has at least one main cutting edge and one auxiliary cutting edge, as well as a projection which begins at the chip run-off surface of the cutting edges, whose sides serve as chip-guiding steps and whose boundary lines circumscribe a symmetrical polygon, whose shape corresponds to that of the cutter plate, and has smaller dimensions than the latter, so that, starting from the corner regions of the polygon, the width of the chip run-off surfaces decreases. The cutter plate is distinguished by the fact that each chip run-off surface has a plane shape and is inclined in the direction of its longitudinal extension by an angle in such a way that the narrowest region is at the greatest height and is arranged to be above the neighboring chip run-off surface, so that it can be manufactured very simply and economically by a grinding procedure.

  • Patent number: 4954024
Abstract: A precision boring tool for the machining of inner faces of bores with at least one cutting plate, supported by a bracing claw, is disclosed. The cutting plate (2) is tilted versus the plane running through the cutting edge (11) of the cutting plate (2) and the longitudinal axis (17) of the precision boring tool (1). Thus, the bracing claw (3) can be disposed such that it does not protrude into the chip space (4).

  • Patent number: 4611959
Abstract: Adjustment of the radial position of the tool bit is accomplished by insertion of the bit in a recess of a clamping shoe which clamps the bit against a shoulder in the cutter head. The clamping shoe has an extension which is rotatably mounted in a recess in the cutter head. A single wedge-shaped adjustment member rotates the clamping shoe with the cutter blade thereby changing the radial distance between the cutting edge and the axis of rotation of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4571130
Abstract: A guide member is removably, but self lockingly, mounted on a cutter head. The cutter head has a dovetailed recess which receives the guide member. One side of the recess has bores which accommodate elastic elements which protrude into the recess. Friction coupling between the guide member and the elastic elements prevents axial movement of the guide member.

  • Patent number: 4199284
Abstract: A conical reamer having an elongated, longitudinally tapering head formed with two longitudinal flutes and rotated about its longitudinal axis by an integral shank portion. An axially elongated groove continuously adjacent each flute is open in a forward, and closed in a rearward direction and receives an axially elongated, reversible cutting blade having a cutting edge exposed in the flute. A frontal end face of the blade diverges obliquely from a plane perpendicular to the reamer axis at one acute angle in a radial direction toward the axis, and at a second acute angle in a direction circumferential relative to the axis. The end face is conformingly engaged in area contact by an abutment face of a clamping ring under the pressure of a clamping screw on the head.

  • Patent number: 4125342
Abstract: The rotating cutter head of a reamer is formed with a recess, open in a radially outward direction and one circumferential direction relative to the axis of rotation, and a blade is retained in the recess between opposite, radially extending faces of the head and of a clamping shoe that may be adjusted inward of the recess. Two face portions of the blade are engaged by the respective faces of the head and shoe in area contact in planes which converge in a radially outward direction at a small acute angle to prevent movement of the blade from an initial, radially adjusted position under cutting stress.
