Patent number: 8255805Abstract: A Java applet program loaded initially from a remote server is configured to receive additional user annotations for data displayed in an already opened applet window located at the user's client system. To increase the usefulness and flexibility of such program, the user is permitted to preserve/capture, during an interactive session, the modified applet window containing any such input or modifications to the applet window data. Because the updated applet window data cannot be written to the user's client system, however, (due to security restrictions), the present invention instead causes such modified window data to be converted to a standard compressed graphics file format (such as GIF for an image file for example), and then uploaded to the remote server. From there the applet can then open another applet window within a browser program pointing to the location of such file on the remote server. At that point, the user can then perform any desired operation on the file (i.e.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2006Date of Patent: August 28, 2012Assignee: Maquis Techtrix LLCInventor: Jody Francis Powlette

Publication number: 20090307624Abstract: A graphical user interface is provided for capturing application data in picture form. A set of data capture tools, including a subjective data parameter palette and accompanying data canvas, are presented to an operator during an interactive session. By selecting and placing such data parameters on the data canvas, a user can paint a data picture representing his/her subjective motivations, mental impressions, reasons, etc., for engaging in a particular transaction. In a preferred embodiment, the present interface is used in connection with a stock portfolio management application, where it is used to capture user rationale and logic for purchasing or selling financial instruments such as securities, options, etc.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 16, 2008Publication date: December 10, 2009Applicant: MAQUIS TECHTRIX LLCInventor: Timothy Orr Knight

Publication number: 20090172091Abstract: An improved proxy is disclosed for allowing click-through on an ad URL delivered on a web page within a Java® applet executing on a client machine. The proxy caches cookie information for the browser, to support java applications that do not allow for planting of cookies directly. When the user clicks on the ad URL, the proxy retrieves the relevant cookie and link information from a host side database, and uses the same to help the browser open the correct URL associated with the ad. The proxy acts to extend the reach and access of a conventional applet beyond the resources of a download host associated with such applet.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2008Publication date: July 2, 2009Applicant: MAQUIS TECHTRIX LLCInventor: Lawrence Arthur Hamel

Publication number: 20080307040Abstract: Methods and systems for providing content (e.g., such as web content) to a computing device are disclosed. An example method for providing web content includes receiving, from a first computing device, a request for the web content and determining a device type of the first computing device. The example method further includes retrieving the web content and modifying the web content based on the device type. The example method still further includes providing the modified web content to the first computing device for display on the first computing device.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2007Publication date: December 11, 2008Applicant: Maquis Techtrix LLCInventor: Andrew So

Patent number: 7216299Abstract: A graphical user interface and related programs are provided for capturing and retrieving data corresponding to subjective motivations, mental impressions, reasons, etc., for engaging in a particular transaction, such as for purchasing or selling a security or other item. The interface presents the user with a menu of potential selectable parameters, and a preference field for visually identifying and arranging such parameters. By selecting and placing such data parameters on the data canvas, a user can effectively express rationale or factors associated with an actual or proposed transaction in a visual depiction or picture form. The interface is used in connection with a stock portfolio management application, where it is used to capture user rationale and logic for purchasing or selling financial instruments such as securities, options, etc., and in other environments where it is desirable to collect or query data in a combination of text and picture form.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2001Date of Patent: May 8, 2007Assignee: Maquis Techtrix LLCInventor: Timothy Orr Knight

Patent number: 7162471Abstract: A content query management system at a content site employs a number of community and customized software search robots which collect content, such as messages from message boards, from other websites. The robots interact with subscribers to access, retrieve and post content according to content groupings and classifications that reflect the collective shared interests, desires, etc. of such subscribers. A user query interface is also adapted to facilitate searching and review of the content through predefined and customized filtering parameters.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2004Date of Patent: January 9, 2007Assignee: Maquis Techtrix LLCInventors: Timothy O. Patent number: 6859807Abstract: A tabulating system and method analyzes content posted and/or queried by an online community. The content can be searched based on a search filter executed at defined intervals, and the system can also reach through to locate and extract content from other remote systems. Community postings and queries can be tabulated to determine “hot topics” of interest to the community, to enhance the appeal and stickiness of a website. Furthermore, subscribers can also formulate and define their own custom searches to be run on their behalf to identify the existence of particular content on the website.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2003Date of Patent: February 22, 2005Assignee: Maquis Techtrix, LLCInventors: Timothy O. Patent number: 6804675Abstract: An intelligent data content provider system and method permits users to access both community content as well as customized content that they compile based on their own preferences. The system monitors community selections, queries, preferences and profiles to determine popular content authors, categories, etc., so that subscribers can share ideas and glean new areas of interest In some instances predictions can be made as to particular desirable subscriber content based on among other things, overall community interest in a particular subject, or prior selections made by the subscriber, so that such content can be presented automatically to a subscriber.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2003Date of Patent: October 12, 2004Assignee: Maquis Techtrix, LLCInventors: Timothy O. Patent number: 6778982Abstract: An online content system is disclosed for creating, compiling and presenting content to subscribers. A subscriber interface is configured to present search, review and listing operations in a flexible manner. Tracking and tabulation is performed on message postings and queries to compile data about a community of subscribers. Content can also be collected and presented from outside the community, incuding from other message boards, newsources, websites, etc.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2003Date of Patent: August 17, 2004Assignee: Maquis Techtrix, LLCInventors: Timothy O. Patent number: 6721748Abstract: An intelligent data content provider system and method for subscriber postings and queries are monitored and evaluated to determine what types of content to retrieve, how to organize such content, and how to present the same. A series of community and customized software robots are used by the subscribers (and automatically in some cases by the system) to locate, retrieve and sort general interest and/or customized content from other online sources. By studying subscriber query and message traffic, the system can self-tune itself automatically to constantly adjust content retrieval, storage and presentation in response to changing community interests, desires, and the like. Because subscriber feedback is accounted for and incorporated into the design of the message board system, this enhances the experience for online users, resulting in increased system usage, subscriber retention characteristics, etc.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2002Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Assignee: Maquis Techtrix, LLC.Inventors: Timothy O.
