Abstract: A holster for a hand tool has an annular upper collar defining an upwardly open mouth, a clip for securing the collar to an article of clothing of a user and a floor spaced below the collar. A front wall, a back wall, and a pair of side walls extend vertically between and are connected to the collar and the floor and define therewith an upwardly open tool-receiving spaced closed downwardly by the floor. One of the walls is elastically deformable and has an inwardly projecting bump engageable with a tool in the space.

Abstract: A knife has a blade-carrying blade slide and a separate actuator slide, both urged by springs into rear positions. A transversely displaceable coupling member on one of the slides is engageable with the other of the slides for coupling the blade slide with the actuator slide for movement of the blade slide from its retracted position into its intermediate position on displacement of the actuator slide from its rear end position into its front end position and for decoupling the slides from each other and shifting transversely out of a path of the other slide on movement of the blade slide from its intermediate position into its extended position. Cam formations on the slides displace the blade slide into the extended position on exertion of a transverse force against the blade edge in the intermediate position of the blade.

Abstract: A utility knife has a flat blade formed with at least one throughgoing hole, a housing member forming a seat adapted to receive the blade, and a retainer member engageable with the blade on the seat. A pair of respective pivot elements on the housing and retainer members allow pivoting of the retainer member between a closed position engaging the blade and holding it against the seat and an open position exposing the blade and permitting its removal from the seat. Respective threadedly interengageable holding elements including a threaded screw on one of the members extending through the hole of the blade and a nut on the other of the members secure the retainer member in the closed position. The threaded screw is fixed in the housing member and has a threaded shaft projecting up from the seat. The nut is rotatable on the retainer member. The retainer member is formed with a large-diameter recess receiving the nut with radial play.

Abstract: A knife has an elongated handle having a front end, a longitudinally extending flat blade secured in the handle, projecting from the front end, and having a transverse front edge and a longitudinally extending side cutting edge meeting at a point, and a blade guard longitudinally displaceable on the handle between an outer extended position projecting longitudinally outward of the point and a retracted position exposing the point. A guard spring braced between the guard and the handle urges the guard into the extended position. A button is transversely displaceable on the handle between an actuated and an unactuated position and interengageable formations on the button and on the guard prevent movement of the guard from the extended into the retracted position in the unactuated position of the button.

Abstract: A knife has a housing and a blade slide carrying a blade and displaceable longitudinally in the housing between a rear retracted end position with the blade wholly received in the housing and a front extended end position with the blade extending forward from the housing and through an intermediate position. A spring urges the blade slide continuously rearward into the retracted position. An actuator slide is displaceable in the housing independently of the blade slide between a front end position and a rear end position and through an intermediate position and is provided with an externally accessible actuating formation. Another spring urges the actuator slide continuously into the rear position.

Abstract: A knife has an elongated handle having an outer end and a longitudinally extending flat blade secured in the handle and projecting from the outer end. The blade has a transverse outer edge and a longitudinally extending side cutting edge meeting at a point. The handle is formed with a pair of longitudinally outwardly open and longitudinally extending guides flanking the blade adjacent the cutting edge thereof. Respective longitudinally extending pins having generally parallel and transversely projecting outer ends sections are longitudinally displaceable in the guides between extended positions with the outer end sections lying longitudinally outward of the point and retracted positions with the outer end sections longitudinally rearward of the point and the blade passing between the outer end sections. Respective springs braced between the pins and the handle urge the pins into the extended positions.

Abstract: A knife has an elongated body having a front end formed with a forwardly projecting trapezoidal-section tongue having a pair of side surfaces and a base surface bridging the side surfaces and a holder formed with a complementary trapezoidal-section slot having a pair of side surfaces extending parallel to and longitudinally slidable on the body side surfaces and a base surface bridging the holder side surfaces, extending parallel to the body base surface, spacedly confronting the body base surface, and forming therewith a blade seat. The tongue and groove have widths measured parallel to the base surfaces and transversely of the elongated body that decrease uniformly forward so that the side surfaces converge forward. A blade is gripped between the base surfaces and projecting forward from the body and holder.

Abstract: An autoretracting box-cutting knife has a housing dimensioned to be held in the hand and having a longitudinally forwardly projecting front end, a blade slide displaceable longitudinally in the housing between a front position and a rear position, and a blade secured in the slide, projecting forward from the housing in the front position of the slide, and retracted back into the housing in the rear position of the slide. In accordance with this invention a blade-actuating crank has an inner and an outer end and is mounted on a pivot on the housing that defines for the crank a transverse pivot axis. Interengaging formations on the crank and holder offset from the pivot can move the crank with the holder between a rear position with its outer end projecting laterally from the housing in the rear position of the holder and a front position in the front position of the holder.

Abstract: A deburring knife has a body extending along an axis, having a front end, and having a rear end formed with an outer surface, a hollow handle fitted over the rear end and having an inner surface confronting the outer surface of the body and a blade affixed to the handle front end. One of the surfaces is formed with a row of angularly extending and axially spaced holding ridges having outer edges and defining a row of axially spaced, radially open, and angularly extending holding grooves each extending relative to the axis over substantially less than 360.degree., and an axially extending ridge-free guide. The other of the surfaces is formed with a radially projecting holding ridge engageable in the grooves and on the guide. The guide and ridges are so dimensioned that when the other-surface ridge is aligned in the guide the handle can move axially on the body.

Abstract: A knife has a hollow body, a blade movable longitudinally on the body between an extended position projecting from the body and a retracted position substantially wholly contained within the body, a biasing element engaged between the body and the blade for urging the blade into the retracted position. A latch device is transversely engageable with the body in a latched position for holding the blade in the extended position and is out of engagement with the body in a release position permitting the biasing element to draw the blade into the retracted position. An electronic circuit in the body including a microelectronic accelerometer generates an output when the body is subjected to an acceleration exceeding a predetermined acceleration threshold. An actuator between the circuit and the latch puts the latch means in the release position when the detector generates the output.

Abstract: A safety utility knife has a weighted pawl which, upon a slip of the knife, disengages from a blade holder to allow the latter to be retracted by a spring. The tooth of the blade holder engages the blocking surface of the pawl with only line or point contact and the blocking surface itself is tangential to a circle centered on the pawl pivot axis. The pawl spring is a coil spring extending in the direction of displacement of the blade holder and generally corresponds to the retraction spring.

Abstract: The safety knife comprises a longitudinally slidable knife blade holder spring-loaded in the direction of the knife handle and a holding and guide piece on which the blade holder is engaged. The blade holder and the holding and guide piece on which it is mounted are received slidably and enclosed at least partially by a substantially rectangular-cross sectioned handle sleeve. Side members which are part of the blade holder and which enclose the blade are held on the holding and guide piece under spring tension by a tension spring. They are guided longitudinally slidable by guide ribs which engage in guide grooves in the holding and guide piece. One side member is provide with mounting pins which engage in mounting pin holes in the holding and guide piece for mounting and holding it in place even during blade changing when the other side member is tilted so that the blade is accessible.

Abstract: The apparatus for cutting off a substantially cylindrical piece from a cylindrical object comprises a handle with a gap like cavity in which a knife blade carried by a blade holder is pivotable. The blade holder is substantially U-shape. In the side arms of the U-shape blade holder recesses are provided which form supporting surfaces for the end regions of the knife blade. Advantageously a U-shape cover is provided with projecting pins which holds the knife blade in place in the blade holder. A transverse pivot passage in the blade holder outside of the blade contour with a radial slot extending therefrom can provide a catch opening for a pivot bolt anchored in the handle.

Abstract: A knife comprises a substantially hollow handle, a short knife blade guided longitudinally movable in a knife blade guide track and at least one guided slider member coupled indirectly with the handle side of the longitudinally movable knife blade. The slider member is provided or associated with a longitudinal slot, in some cases penetrating the handle to reach the exterior, and an operating piece. An especially simple replacement of the knife blade is possible since the knife blade is insertable at least indirectly in the knife blade guide track through the longitudinal slot which is designed to meet its spatial requirements. There the knife blade is form-locked and releasably lockable on the slider member which is at least partially removable from the handle.

Abstract: A razor knife has an elongated housing formed of a front housing part and a rear housing part and having a longitudinally extending guide. The rear housing part is backwardly separable from the front housing part and carries a blade holder which has a seat for a razor blade and an actuator button exposed at a slot formed in the front housing part. This holder is displaceable by sliding of the actuator button from a back position with the blade wholly enclosed by the housing into a front position with a portion of the blade projecting forwardly from the housing. A tension spring inside the insert or back housing part continuously urges the holder into the back position. Interengaging formations on the operating button and the housing, however, allow the blade to be held in the outer position so long as a slight inward force is exerted on the slidable actuator button.

Abstract: A cutter, especially for release of a passenger in an emergency from a vehicle seat belt, comprises a head gear formed on one end of a handle and having a beak-like formation projecting outwardly from the head toward the handle and defining with the head a converging mouth into which the seat belt can be inserted for engagement by a blade recessed in the head. A slot continues the line of the beak to guide the seat belt into engagement with the blade and a plate is laterally mounted on the head, either the plate or the head being provided with a recess accommodating the blade and dimensioned substantially to conform to the outline thereof.
