  • Patent number: 4492193
Abstract: A method of operating air-compressing direct-injecting internal combustion engines including at least one piston with a combustion chamber of a shape of a body of rotation, and a fuel injector with a controllable outlet and a throttle member for controlling the fuel injection-pressure is disclosed. The velocity of combustion air rotating about the longitudinal central axis of the combustion chamber and the velocity of the fuel stream when leaving the injector are coordinated to one another. The surface area of the fuel which is contactable by combustion air is controllable so that on increase of the speed of the internal combustion engine the surface area is decreased.

  • Patent number: 4488447
Abstract: A power take-off of an internal combustion engine, typically an Otto-cycle or Diesel engine, for auxiliary machines, such as compressors, pumps, etc., with the input shaft of the auxiliary machine being drivingly connected with the output shaft of the internal combustion engine via gears. To change the step-up/step-down ratio, the shaft center spacing between the input shaft of the auxiliary machine and the output shaft of the internal combustion engine is variable in a manner that the drive pinion is supported in an eccentric bearing bushing which, in turn, is arranged axially displaceably and rotatably in a flanged housing. The eccentric bearing bushing has a flanged part having axial holes to alternatively accept a locating pin.

  • Patent number: 4471964
Abstract: In a liquid packing, the inlet pressure of the sealing liquid is substantially increased above the gas pressure at the high pressure side, by means of a centrifugal packing which is enclosed at both sides by an annular floating body and provided, at both sides, with flow passages and, radially farther, with annular flanges to obtain a safe seal. Check valves opening at a definite intermediate pressure effect a flow of the sealing liquid through the high pressure-side sealing gap between the shaft packing and the floating body and passages in the floating body, to mix it with the supplied sealing liquid, whereby the friction heat produced in the sealing gap is removed to a large extent.

  • Patent number: 4427323
Abstract: A device is disclosed for cutting two parallel partially intersecting bores, such as the bores used in a screw type compressor housing, comprising, a device housing, a pair of spindles rotatably mounted to the housing and a tool holder connected near the end of each spindle. The spindles are engaged with each other through gears so that rotation of one spindle in one direction causes rotation of the other spindle in opposite direction. A drive shaft is connected to one of the spindles for rotating the pair of spindles simultaneously. Each tool holder is elongated along a major tool holder axis thereof which is substantially transverse to an axis of its associated spindle. The major axes of the two tool holders are always substantially perpendicular to each other so that free rotation of the two spindles, in opposite directions is possible.
