    Abstract: A method and an assembly for practicing that method wherein an article is molded of a heat-fusing material or plastisol in a mold having first and second groups of liquid passages disposed adjacent the mold surface for controlling the temperature over respective first and second areas of the mold surface. The mold is supported for rotation about an axis by a stationary pedestal. A movable module supports plastisol storage tanks, heat exchangers, valves, conduits, etc., for supplying the plastisol to the mold. The movable module also supports a dump tank which is disposed beneath the mold for receiving and retrieving the liquid plastisol which is emptied or dumped from the mold when it is rotated to an inverted position. There is included first and second liquid circuits including a pump and heat exchanger for supplying liquid at different temperatures to the passages associated with the mold.

    Abstract: A heat exchanger assembly and the method of making same wherein the heat exchanger assembly includes a heat exchanging core having spaced headsheets adjacent opposite extremities with fluid conveying tubes extending between the headsheets and having heat transfer fins disposed upon the tubes. Two plastic radiator components are disposed in mating engagement with one another with each component encasing one-half of the core and disposed in mating engagement with one another and defining spaced open cavities. Each of the components is in fluid-tight or sealed relationship with one another and with each of the headsheets disposed within the opening of each of the cavities so that the cavities and the headsheets define a pair of spaced tanks whereby fluid may flow between the tanks through the heat exchanging core. The headsheets are disposed in grooves within the components with a seal engaging the periphery of the headsheets and disposed in the grooves for sealing the headsheets to the respective components.

The front fascia has an exterior finished surface and interior hidden surface with retaining tabs integral with the fascia and extending from the fascia on the interior surface thereof for allowing a stiffening means defined by a wire-like rod to be snapped into position across the interior surface of the fascia for stiffening the fascia. The rod is flexible transversely to its longitudinal axis but is less flexible than the fascia.

    Abstract: A mold assembly is disclosed for making a reinforcing panel structure including female and male molds with each mold having a base surface with four sided projections extending upwardly from the base surface to a raised surface. The projections of each mold are spaced from the next adjacent projection in that mold in a first direction a distance equal to the dimension of the projection in that direction plus a predetermined dimension which is double the thickness of the rib of the panel and with each projection spaced from the next adjacent projection in that mold in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction a distance equal to the dimension of the projection in that second direction plus a predetermined dimension which is double the thickness of the rib of the panel. Each of the projections have embossments thereon.

    Abstract: Two embodiments of an assembly for directing a fluid, such as a combination of air and a liquid, toward a vehicle headlamp for cleaning the headlamp surface. A support member is adapted at a first end to be connected to a vehicle body adjacent a headlamp and extends to a forward end which supports a nozzle guide or cage member. The assembly includes an elbow member having a fluid inlet and support flanges for receiving retaining fasteners. A supply tube is connected to the inlet of the elbow. The elbow member has an outlet which extends transversely of the inlet and a flailing flexible tube is connected to the outlet and has a loop integral therewith extending about the elbow member for retaining the flailing tube thereon. The cage member has a terminal end defining an opening and is of generally funnel shape for restricting the flailing movement of the emitting end of the flailing tube. In the second embodiment a cover is disposed over the cage member.

    Abstract: A spring support is disposed about and fixed to a shock-absorbing unit and engages the lower end of a coil spring. A spring base engages the upper end of the coil spring and engages a mounting plate which is secured to the vehicle body and is also fixedly connected to the upper end of the shock absorber rod. The spring base has a cup-shaped cavity in which is disposed an energy-absorbing block of compressible elastomeric urethane-type material for absorbing energy when the shock absorber system bottoms out by the upper end of the shock-absorbing unit engaging the bottom of the elastomeric block. The energy-absorbing block has a peripheral disc portion extending thereabout and clamped between a dust cover and the spring base for securing the block in position. The energy-absorbing block includes a first plate of non-compressible material disposed between its upper face and the bottom of the cup-shaped cavity in the spring base.

    Abstract: An impact energy-absorbing, low density urethane foam for use in automobile bumpers has good moldability and is relatively temperature insensitive, i.e. gives approximately the same physical performance over a wide range of temperatures. This foam is characterized by its good multiple impact performance and low compression set values. The foam is water blown in a closed mold from a quasi-prepolymer system. The molded density is preferably in the range of 5 to 10 PCF.The foam formulation is based on a polymer polyol of a poly (oxypropylene/ethylene) triol reacted with a styrene/acrylonitrile monomer mixture which triol thus modified is reacted with (1) a roughly 1/5 to 1.5/1 weight amount of a hydroxy terminated polybutadiene homopolymer based on polymer polyol, (2) a 50 to 150 equivalent weight polyol crosslinker of 2 to 6 functionality, (3) a MDI glycol or triol quasi-prepolymer, and (4) some water.

    Abstract: A gasket assembly including a metal core member having spaced parallel first and second faces with an annular cylinder bore opening therein. The core member includes an offset portion extending about the periphery of the opening. The offset portion has a first surface raised above one face of the core member and a second surface recessed below the other face of the core member. The offset portion is integrally formed with the remainder of the core member and is connected thereto through sections which have shear stresses therein. In one embodiment a U-shaped shell member is disposed about the core member and the offset portion therein and layers of compressible paper-like material are disposed on opposite sides of the core member extending from the U-shaped shell member.
