Abstract: The present invention provides tooth whitening compositions in the form of a liquid crystal or a microemulsion that includes a tooth whitening agent in an amount effective to whiten teeth, a hydrophilic phase including water, a hydrophobic phase including at least one oil, at least one anionic, nonionic, amphoteric or zwitterionic surfactant, and a water soluble co-solvent having a Hildebrand solubility parameter above 12 (cal/cm3)1/2, as well as methods for whitening teeth including applying the liquid crystal or microemulsion composition to the teeth for a period of time and under conditions effective to whiten the teeth.

Abstract: Devices and methods for cleaning an oral cavity by positioning a device suitable for detecting and removing plaque from the surface within the oral cavity having applied thereto a fluorescent agent capable of binding to plaque on the surface. The surface is substantially simultaneously cleaned and irradiated with a light of a wavelength effective to provide a fluorescent emission when contacted with said fluorescent agent. A portion of the fluorescent emission is collected (APV1), and compared to a predetermined threshold value (PPTV). If APV1 is less than PPTV, the device is moved to another section. If APV1 is greater than or equal to PPTV, then another portion of fluorescent emission is collected (APV2). The percent reduction from APV1 to APV2 determines when the device is moved to another section.

Abstract: An intravaginal tampon is formed of compressed material and has an outer surface, an insertion end, a withdrawal end, and a center portion formed between the insertion and withdrawal ends. The outer surface has at least two segmented grooves are formed therein, and each segmented groove is separated from and spaced at a distance from an adjacent segmented groove. Each segmented groove has at least one substantially longitudinal segment and at least one accumulator segment. The arrangement of the segments provides a pooling region to impede bodily fluid flow along the outer surface of the tampon.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical dosage form comprising non-steroidal-anti-inflammatory drugs, in particular propionic acid derivatives such as ibuprofen, along with a second active ingredient having a shorter therapeutically effective plasma concentration duration, such as phenylephrine, and methods of administering the same are provided. This method provides improved therapeutic effect, in particular pain relief along with decongestant relief, over extended time periods.

The line of weakness extends across the seam area, and the wrapper can be removed as a single piece.
