  • Patent number: 7753942
Abstract: A fixture which is intended to be screwed firmly into bone tissue. The fixture includes a generally cylindrical anchoring portion provided with an external screw thread. The anchoring portion includes a cavity which extends from the insertion end of the anchoring portion. A number of slots which connect the cavity with the outside of the anchoring portion extend from the insertion end of the anchoring portion. Each slot is delimited by a leading slot wall and a trailing slot wall, the leading and trailing slot walls rotating in the direction defined by the screw thread when screwing in the anchoring portion. At least the radially outermost part of the trailing slot wall defines an angle with the radial direction and is inclined obliquely forward from within and outward in the direction of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5702443
Abstract: An anchoring element for implantation in bone or other tissue takes the form of an externally threaded screw, for example of titanium or other tissue compatible material. Such an anchoring element may be used, for example for holding prostheses or artificial joint components. To increase its rotational stability and prevent the element from becoming unscrewed, the threads of the screw are provided with notches, for example by forming spiral or straight grooves in the peripheral threaded surface of the element, which grooves intersect the thread turns to form these notches. After such an anchoring element has been implanted in bone tissue for example, the tissue draws into the notches to provide keys preventing rotation and unscrewing of the anchoring element.

  • Patent number: 5362236
Abstract: A substantially cylindrical anchoring element for implantation in bone tissue is constructed to support prostheses, such as artificial joint components, tooth bridges or artificial teeth etc. The anchoring element has two cylindrical segments with end portions differing in diameter. The end portion with the smaller diameter is positioned at the distal or insertion part of the element and at least parts of both end portions are provided with a threaded portion having the same pitch. The anchoring element is implanted by forming relatively large and relatively small diameter aligned passages in the bone tissue. The smaller diameter segment of the anchoring element passes through the relatively large diameter passage and is self threaded in the small diameter passage. While self threading by the smaller diameter segment takes place, the larger diameter segment is self threaded in the large diameter passage.

  • Patent number: 5324199
Abstract: A fixture intended to be implanted into bone tissue, for example, the bone tissue of a jaw, for anchoring a prothesis, such as a tooth crown. The fixture includes a cylindrical head disposed on the end of a shaft for positionally fixing the prothesis. An upper and lower external thread section is formed on the shaft. The lower external thread section is screwed into a previously prepared hole in the bone tissue, the hole having a diameter that is substantially equal to a core diameter of the shaft. A thread-free zone is located along a mid-section of the shaft. The thread-free zone has a smooth outer surface to avoid the irritation of nerves present in the bone tissue in the vicinity of the fixture. Gently curving transitional portions connect the thread-free zone with the upper and lower external thread sections. The thread-free mid-section and the lower external thread section are provided with a coating of tissue friendly material.
