  • Patent number: 4228802
Abstract: An outer envelope and an inner drainage tube are formed from an elastomeric material with molded in reinforcing and guiding elements. The inner tube engages within the outer tube to form a flexible catheter having a smooth outer surface and a pair of interior lumens. The inner cylindrical lumen through the inner drainage tube serves as a drainage channel and the second lumen, formed by the annular cross sectional space between the tubes, provides a passage for the introduction of irrigating fluid or the like. A mechanical expanding device is provided near the distal end and a manually operated actuator near the proximal or external end. A detachable auger assembly can be introduced into the first lumen and can be rotated from the external end of the catheter to draw down clots or debris from the bladder which might obstruct the passage.
