  • Patent number: 10563652
Abstract: A variable displacement vane pump includes a biasing element for urging the control ring toward a first position that corresponds to a maximum volumetric capacity of the pump. Fluid pressure within a control chamber urges the control ring toward the second position. A feedback path is in communication with a fluid outlet of the pump for supplying a pressurized fluid. A first supply path provides the pressurized fluid to the fluid inlet. A second supply path provides the pressurized fluid to the control chamber. A valve controls flow of the pressurized fluid via the second supply path by moving between a fully open position and a fully closed position in which flow of the pressurized fluid along the second supply path is prevented by the valve. Moving the valve from the open position to the closed position increases the fluid pressure within the control chamber.

  • Patent number: 10060328
Abstract: A system for regulating a flow of liquid coolant in an automotive cooling system includes a valve body having an inlet and an outlet. A pressure operated valve member moves in response to a fluid pressure. An electrically operated valve member regulates the fluid pressure within the chamber. A sensor target is coupled to the pressure operated valve member. A position sensor is located outside of the valve body and outputs a position signal based on proximity of the sensor target. An electronic control unit calculates a target coolant flow rate based in part on a calculated target temperature for the engine and a temperature signal from a temperature sensor, determines a target position for the pressure operated valve member based on the target coolant flow rate, and controls operation of the electrically operated valve member based on the target position and the position signal.

Abstract: A variable displacement vane pump that includes a biasing assembly that applies a first biasing force to a pump control ring when the pump control ring is located a first position and a second position and applies a second biasing force when the pump control ring is located between the second position and a third position. The first position of the pump control ring corresponds to a maximum volumetric capacity of the pump, the second position corresponds to an intermediary volumetric capacity of the pump, and the third position corresponds to a minimum volumetric capacity of the pump. Fluid pressure within a control chamber urges the pump control ring toward the third position.

  • Patent number: 9103343
Abstract: A high-performance oil pump for pumping oil in an internal combustion engine that eliminates or greatly reduces cavitation in the oil pump, thereby increasing the efficiency and performance of the oil pump. The present invention provides a housing having an inlet for receiving a supply of oil and an outlet for discharging the oil. At least two gears rotatably and matingly are disposed within the housing for pumping the oil from the inlet to the outlet. A pressure regulation circuit is disposed within the housing for balancing oil flow pressure between the inlet and the outlet by redirecting a portion of the oil from the outlet to the inlet when said oil flow pressure reaches a predetermined level at the outlet in order to reduce or eliminate cavitation of oil in the oil pump.

  • Patent number: 5810571
Abstract: An oil pump for high performance internal combustion engines suitable for use with race cars and the like wherein extended wear and tolerance maintenance is achieved by supporting the pump gears on shafts extending through the gears. Balanced dual support of the pump gears is achieved by forming bearing openings in the pump lower housing receiving the lower gear shaft portions and lubrication of the lower housing supported gear shafts is achieved by oil passages communicating with the bearings and the lower housing oil outlet cavity. Screw in plugs and retainers are employed to insure effective assembly even under high vibration, and a bolt-on screened oil inlet achieves superior rigidity and ease of replacement.
