  • Patent number: 4549726
Abstract: A mounting member for mounting an engine or transmission on a supporting ucture of a motor vehicle, is constructed as a one piece integral component made of fiber compound material in which the fiber layers have defined, preselected orientations. The damping characteristics can be optimally tuned for specific types of use or vehicles by controlling the materials and orientation of the fibers in each layer, and by controlling the number of layers. Additional damping may be achieved by inserting an elastomeric intermediate layer between the individual fiber layers. The shape of the mounting member also varies according to the load or stress to which the member will be exposed in use. The available space and the type of motor vehicle in which the member will be used are also taken into account in determining the shape, cross-sectional configuration and other structural details of the mounting member.

  • Patent number: 4548345
Abstract: This automatic riveting machine can access confined component parts, has a imple sensor system to locate component part edges which allows it to be used in special equipment or in robots. The riveting machine has a mounting bracket to which a rivet supply unit, a riveting unit, and a drill feed advance unit are movably attached. A pneumatic cylinder drives each unit from its resting position into the operating position while shock absorbers brake these movements. Another pneumatic cylinder locks all units into the resting position when the compressed air supply in interrupted. The rivet supply unit pneumatically shoots single rivets into pre-drilled holes in the component parts. The riveting unit is constructed as a so-called alligator riveting press which clamps the component parts together and presses or rivets the heads of the rivets. The drill feed advance unit drills holes into multiple component parts while locating their edges, pressing them together, and compensating for any positional tolerances.

  • Patent number: 4547127
Abstract: A flexible blade neck of a helicopter rotor blade is bridged by a torsion gid sleeve for the blade angle adjustments. The radially outer end of the blade neck and sleeve are rigidly connected to the wing section of the blade. The radially inner end of the blade neck forms a blade root which is secure to the rotor head or hub. Additionally, the radially inner ends of the blade root and of the sleeve are interconnected by a ball and socket arrangement permitting a universal movement between the sleeve and the blade neck, thereby decoupling sleeve movements from the blade neck and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 4545733
Abstract: The blade angle of the blades is adjustable in a rotor for a rotary wing craft by a lever mechanism (13, 14 or 41, 42) secured to the radially inner end of an extension bushing (7; 7.1) or shaft (43). The extension bushing (7; 7.1) or shaft (43) is connected with its radially outer lever (15 or 44) to the blade root (2) or a blade root mounting (39, 50) of a rotor blade in an angular position adjustable manner for adjusting the tracking of the blades. The bushing (7; 7.1) or shaft (43) is adjustable in its angular position relative to the blade root (2) by adjustment screws cooperating with a free end of the lever (15 or 44) which reaches into a gap between two of such adjustment screws (16 or 45) cooperating with counter nuts (17 or 46). By adjusting the angular position of the bushing or shaft with the screws it is possible to assure a uniform tracking among all the blades of a multiblade rotor. Such uniform tracking is desirable if the blades of a rotor are to rotate in the same plane.

  • Patent number: 4543991
Abstract: An electromagnetic double-valve can synchronously regulate or control the ow of two materials without the need of a costly mechanical linkage between the two individual valves which may be arranged in a common housing. An armature serves as the valve body or plug in each valve and is held in one valve position by permanent magnets and is switched to the other valve position by a synchronously controlled electromagnetic coil or coils which are connected in series. When one armature is lifted quicker than the other by the electromagnet or magnets, then the total magnetic flux decreases, whereby the second armature is also lifted. The synchronization of the switching operation is enforced by the common, spacially closed magnetic flux through both armatures and by the common effect on both armatures by the electromagnetic coil or coils.

  • Patent number: 4530733
Abstract: Reinforcing fiber materials such as rovings, webbings, and other fiber maials are impregnated with a resinous binder material in such a manner that gaseous inclusions are avoided whereby a surprising increase in the strength of the fiber compound material is achieved. For this purpose the liquid resinous binder material is applied substantially only to one side of the reinforcing material which is then moved through an absorbing zone in which the liquid resinous binder material penetrates the reinforcing material substantially completely as a result of a predetermined residence time and temperature in the absorbing zone. Gas inclusions are removed by adsorption and/or by expulsion. The gas adsorbing and expulsion zone is a chamber in which a plurality of guide rollers are arranged so as to cause the impregnated material to repeatedly reverse its moving direction, whereby the sequential and repeated penetration of the reinforcing material by the resinous material and the removal of gas inclusions are enhanced.

  • Patent number: 4517677
Abstract: A stable optical laser resonator is formed by two mirrors facing each other. At least one of the mirrors operates as a decoupling device for decoupling a coherent, pulsating laser beam from the resonator. For this purpose the decoupling mirror has a zone or zones which are permeable or partially permeable to the laser beam. These zones are located in predetermined areas of the mirror and the size of these zones is relatively small compared to the total effective mirror surface. Preferably, the active lasing medium is limited to a narrow cross-sectional area perpendicularly to the optical axis of the resonator. The narrow cross-sectional area has an approximately rectangular shape for enforcing the one-dimensional oscillation movement of a laser beam.

  • Patent number: 4505206
Abstract: The air gap between the rail or rails and an electromagnetically levitated ehicle is optimally controlled with regard to the power or energy consumption. This result is achieved by a control employing two control channels. One control channel is constructed as a non-linear support or guide controller for regulating or contolling the air gap width in response to disturbances of short duration. The other control channel is constructed to cause a reduction of the air gap width or rather of the rated air gap width for adapting of the air gap width to the spectrum and amplitude distribution of the disturbances to which the levitated vehicle is exposed. This type of control may be employed for the regulating of the air gap between the support magnets and the respective rail and also for controlling the air gap between the guide magnet and the respective rail to reduce the energy required for maintaining these air gaps at an optimally efficient width.

  • Patent number: 4491029
Abstract: The present positional gyroscope is used for stabilizing and steering a fng body, especially a secondary flying body ejected from a primary or carrier flying body which is rotating or rolling about its longitudinal or roll axis. Such gyroscopes are supposed to sense and take over the rolling position information from the gyroscope of the carrier flying body. For this purpose it is necessary that the gyroscope of the secondary flying body avoids course deviations. Hence, the gyroscope is supported in a first locked frame (3, 8) which in turn is suspended in an auxiliary rolling frame (4). A drive mechanism or motor (2) is connected to the rolling frame (4). The driving motor (2) may be switched on for rotating the auxiliary rolling frame (4) prior to activating or ejecting the secondary flying body.

  • Patent number: 4489611
Abstract: Materials and structural components having irregular shapes may be tested two ultrasonic testing heads which are movable in unison in the direction in which the cross-section of the material or component being tested changes. The synchroneously moving testing heads are spaced from each other in a direction extending across the moving direction. The testing heads are ultrasonic receivers connected with their outputs to a comparing device which provides an error signal when the amplitude ratio of the received signal changes. The amplitude ratio is formed between the amplitudes of the ultrasonic signals received by both testing heads. Preferably, the comparing device comprises an amplifier which amplifies the amplitude of the received second signal by an amplification factor which is proportional to a deviation of the amplitude of the received first signal from a reference value. The error signal is recorded, for example, by a coordinate plotter.
