  • Method for strengthening a steel channel member

    Abstract: A conventional steel C-channel used as a side rail in a truck frame is strengthened by forming, after heat treating, strengthening lips on the edges of the C-channel flanges while the C-channel is still hot from the final tempering step of the heat treating process. The method obviates the need to use more expensive quenching dies and is advantageously performed immediately after tempering.
