  • Patent number: 7153389
Abstract: A soft crepe paper machine comprises a wet section with a press section having a press defined by first and second press elements forming a press nip through which a press felt runs with a paper web. A suction roll is arranged in the loop of the press felt before the press nip at a distance from the second press element, and the felt with the web thereon runs around the suction roll with a large wrap angle. A drying cylinder forms the second press element. The first press element is either a solid press roll, a suction press roll, or a variable crown press roll.

  • Patent number: 7112258
Abstract: A dry end section for a paper-making machine for producing a high-bulk tissue is provided. Such a machine comprises a through-air dryer adapted to finally dry a paper web and a through-air drying fabric configured to transport the web through the through-air dryer. A separating device is included for facilitating separation of the web from the through-air drying fabric. A reel is also provided and is configured to receive the web thereon. The web is received directly on the separating device or on a fabric wrapped about the separating device. In some instances, the web may be compressed between the separating device and an adjacent roll or by a web-compressing device disposed along the fabric transporting the web. The web is then transported to the reel directly from the fabric or other support mechanism extending between the separating device and the reel, without free draw of the web. Associated methods are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6869506
Abstract: An apparatus for decreasing heat emission and enhancing a vacuum system in a papermaking machine is provided. Such an apparatus includes a drying device having an inlet for receiving heated air for removing moisture from a paper web and an outlet for exhausting the moisture-containing air from the drying device. A vacuum system is configured to produce a suction and receive the moisture-containing air. A web handling device is disposed upstream of the drying device and is configured to interact with the web before the web is directed to the drying device. The web handling device is further configured to receive a portion of the moisture-containing air from the drying device, wherein the portion of the moisture-containing air is directed through the web by the web handling device to facilitate dewatering of the web before the moisture-containing air is received by the vacuum system.

  • Patent number: 6440273
Abstract: A compact multilevel paper making machine is provided comprising a web-receiving region where a web of paper is received on a fabric forming a continuous loop, a reel-up for winding the paper web onto a roll, and a web transfer point disposed between the web-receiving region and the reel-up. The fabric receives the web at the web-receiving region and then supports and transports the web from the web-receiving region to the web transfer point in a first direction on a first defined vertical level. At the web transfer point, the web is separated from the fabric. The fabric loop further includes a return run from the web transfer point to the web-receiving region over which the fabric then travels. A cleaning section is also disposed along the return run of the fabric loop for cleaning the fabric.

  • Patent number: 6398913
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of recovering energy in a forming section of a papermaking or boardmaking machine, wherein stock from a headbox is fed into a forming zone of a forming section, said forming zone including at least one looped forming fabric curving along a convex surface of a support member, and water is drained from the stock through said at least one forming fabric in the forming zone to form a paper or board web, the water passing through said at least one fabric being thrown out from the forming zone and possessing kinetic energy, characterized by placing a movable component in the water thrown out from the forming zone, so as to cause the water to move the component, and thereby recovering part of the kinetic energy. The invention also relates to an arrangement in a papermaking or boardmaking machine.
