Patent number: 4771759Abstract: A slicing machine in which a workpiece rod is disposed without cutting base on a table of the machine and it may be brought by means of a feeding slide step by step into a working position in the range of action of an inner cutting-off wheel. For removing the severed slices of arbitrary thickness, a vacuum chuck with a crown of suction nozzles is connected through a ball joint capable to be locked with a support and a horizontal slide. By shifting the horizontal slide and when the ball joint is loosened, the vacuum chuck may be put against the rod with a definite force and oriented, and then the ball joint is locked so that the vacuum chuck is rigidly maintained in the oriented position. The pressure force of the vacuum chuck may be recleared and the vacuum chuck with its support may be clamped with the vacuum chuck in the released position. This permits a clear, proper slicing of the rod without danger of breaks at the time when the separation takes place.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1987Date of Patent: September 20, 1988Assignee: Meyer + Burger AGInventor: Armin Zoebeli

Patent number: 4653361Abstract: The slicing machine has a mounting table carrying the workpiece to be sliced by the cutting blade. The mounting table is supported on an elastically deformable measuring plate of which the deformation is measured by a measuring transducer in a position as near as possible to the plane of the cutting blade wherein the cutting force is acting. The measuring transducer has very high sensitivity in order to detect deformations in the order of fractions of a .mu.m and is thus able to properly detect the value of the cutting force. The measuring system is spaced from the cutting blade and workpiece and does not hinder manipulation and accurate fine adjustment of the workpiece. On the other hand the accuracy of the measurement does not depend on the manner in which the workpiece is mounted. Preferably deflection of the cutting blade from its plane under the influence of the cutting force is also detected and an optimum control and supervision of the cutting process may be effected based on both measurements.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1985Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Assignee: Meyer & Burger AGInventor: Armin Zobeli

Patent number: 4188936Abstract: A method for increasing the cutting performance of reciprocating slurry saws of the type in which cutting blades are held in a clamping frame is accomplished displacing the clamping frame at a frequency above two cycles per second in reciprocating motion and utilizing a shorter stroke than in the known machines. The frequency is high, e.g., between two and 50 or more cycles per second, the stroke is short, e.g., between one and 75 millimeters, and the cutting performance is increased exponentially over known saws. Various mechanical embodiments are disclosed for obtaining the high frequency drive.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1977Date of Patent: February 19, 1980Assignee: Maschinenfabrik Meyer & Burger AGInventor: Alfred Stauffer
