  • Publication number: 20160032038
Abstract: Provided herein are polymeric ionic salt catalysts that are useful in the non-enzymatic saccharification processes. The catalysts described herein hydrolyze cellulosic materials to produce monosaccharides and/or disaccharides. Saccharification of lignocellulosic materials, such as biomass waste products of agriculture, forestry and waste treatment, are of great economic and environmental relevance. As part of biomass energy utilization, attempts have been made to obtain ethanol (bioethanol) by hydrolyzing cellulose or hemicellulose, which are major constituents of plants.
