  • Patent number: 6216698
Abstract: An improved pessary, comprising a frame made of an elongated material of generally circular cross-section. This elongated material is then formed into a closed figure of a generally rectangular shape. The frame is then formed into a configuration which has a generally horseshoe shape, in side view. The frame comprises four arms, including a first, second, third, and fourth arm. With the frame in its initial rectangular shape, the first and second arms are generally parallel to each other. In this initial rectangular shape, the third and fourth arms are also generally parallel to each other. In addition, these third and fourth arms are generally perpendicular to the first and second arms. The first and second arms include springs that are crimped onto each of the first and second arms at a position generally in the middle of each of the first and second arms. The springs permit flexing of the first and second arms.

  • Patent number: 4393879
Abstract: Apparatus for collecting animal or human tissue includes a curette having a passageway therein terminating at the front end of the curette in a tissue-receiving opening formed in a tissue-scraping spoon. The rear end of said curette extends from a housing forming a handle or gripping surface for manipulating the apparatus. The curette passageway communicates with the interior of said housing and to be connected to a source of vacuum for sucking tissue through the tissue-receiving inlet opening of the curette and into the housing. A substantially flat tissue collecting screen is placed at an angle obliquely across the inside of the housing in the path of tissue flow through the housing to form a large tissue collecting area. The screen has a multiplicity of tissue-screening apertures communicating between the curette passageway on one side of the screen and the outlet opening on the other side of the screen.

  • Patent number: 4384587
Abstract: A spatula for collecting cancer cells outside and within the cervix canal includes a scraper head having a laterally extending outer cervix engaging leg projecting from one side of the head. The head further includes a cervical canal entering finger-like portion projecting longitudinally beyond the leg. The finger-like portion has on the same side of the scraping head from which said leg projects a longitudinal inner scraping surface which scrapes cells from the wall of the cervical canal when the spatula is rotated along the longitudinal axis of the spatula. The longitudinal inner surface of the finger-like portion comprises two adjacent longitudinally extending sections, one of which has a rough surface which scrapes cells from the wall of the cervical canal and the other of which has a relatively smooth surface.
