Abstract: The present invention provides a system, method, and software application for enabling a user to view data from an external data source in a visual map, wherein the external data source has a web services interface. Visual mapping software on a computer provides a visual mapping interface in which a user can create, edit, and/or view a visual map. Within the visual mapping interface, the visual mapping software provides the user with an option to obtain data from one or more data sources associated with a web service. In response to the user selecting a data source associated with a web service, the visual mapping software builds a web service request for the web service associated with the selected data source. The visual mapping application makes a call to the applicable web service with the web service request. The visual mapping application subsequently receives data from the web service and transforms the data into a format that can be used to generate visual map data.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system, method, and software program for enabling a user to view and interact with a visual map in an external application. According to one embodiment of the invention, a visual mapping application creates a file with (i) visual map data and (ii) software code capable of being executed by an external application to display the visual map and provide select visual mapping application in the external application. In one embodiment, such functionality includes the ability to expand and collapse map topics, scroll the map, zoom in and out, follow hypertext links in the map, find content in the map, and print the map. The created file can be thought of as a “visual map player” in that an external application can “play” the created file, resulting in a live map in the external application.

Abstract: A system and method enable automatic importation of data from an external data source into an electronic workspace in the form of a visual hierarchy. To display data from a data source, data is retrieved from the external data source, and a visual presentation format for the data is created based on characteristics of the data (e.g., the field to which the data is assigned in the data source, the type of data, the value of the data, etc), where the visual presentation format is hierarchical. The data is then displayed in an electronic workspace in the form of visual hierarchy that is accordance with such visual presentation format. In the electronic workspace, a user can manipulate and supplement the data without affecting the data source, unless there is a trigger event that causes modifications to the data to be written back to the data source.

Abstract: A network-based rating system provides a mechanism whereby users can submit and rate challenges in a challenge processing step and submit and rank ideas in an idea processing step that correspond to the challenges in the challenge processing step. The highest rated challenge is determined in the challenge processing step and is then submitted to users in an idea processing step. Alternatively, challenges submitted by users in the challenge processing step are submitted to users for ideas in the idea processing step on an ongoing basis. In these alternative embodiments, the challenge rated in the idea processing step is a challenge other than the highest rated challenge determined in the challenge processing step. In another embodiment, the users rating challenges are the same users rating ideas in the idea processing step and in other embodiments the users are not the same as those rating ideas in the idea processing step.

Abstract: Various problems currently exist in the operation of using prediction markets for corporate forecasting. One of these problems we address is the problem related to the “consistency and consolidation of metrics”. We hierarchically structure and link sets of markets traded using an automated market maker and dynamically balance markets.

Abstract: A method for idea prediction market investment is provided. In an idea management system, a network server advertises to a user, via a network and a client device, a first idea that the user can invest an amount of virtual money X during an investment period in an idea prediction market. The advertising indicates to the user how much virtual money Y the user will receive if the user holds the investment until the first idea gets selected at the close of the investment period. The return of investment (ROI) Y over X is based at least on a second idea in the idea prediction market. In one embodiment, the user may divest the investment X prior to the close of the investment period. In another embodiment, the user is prevented from divest the investment X prior to the close of the investment period.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system that implements a prediction market, used for making forecasts and, more particularly, for extracting participant utility. One or more forecasts of a specific participant or subset of participants are taken, and a measure of divergence of these forecasts from a group as a whole (or for that matter, any group) is calculated. This divergence may then later be employed in the prediction market (e.g., for present or future forecasting). For example, if it is known that “sales managers” are consistently too liberal in forecasting product release dates than others within a company, this tendency may be compensated for or used in a variety of manners, such as automatically correcting predictions or forecasts for perceived error, automatically discarding or modifying predictions, or automatically generating “virtual” predictions for future events. Other actions may also be taken.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system, method, and software application for providing a link to an online procurement site from within a supported software application. In one embodiment, when a user starts up a supported software application on a client computer, the client computer sends a request to a server for the Universal Resource Locator (URL) to use in the link. The server, which may be a server associated with a software vendor or the supported client application, determines whether or not the user of the client computer is associated with a business that has a procurement site from which the user can purchase a related application. If the server determines that the user is associated with a business that has a procurement site from which the user can purchase a related software application, then the server provides the client computer with the URL for the procurement site, and the supported client application generates a link to the procurement site.

Abstract: A hierarchy of project and personal tasks is maintained for users associated with multiple projects. The hierarchy is maintained using a computer server machine having a processor and network connection to a client machine having a computer display. A user-task list is obtained. The user-task list includes a first-project task having an initial first-project task score, wherein the first-project task is associated with a first-project, the first-project having a first-project task list including the first-project task The user-task list also includes a second-project task having an second-project task score, wherein the second-project task is associated with a second-project, the second-project having a second-project task list including the second-project task. The user-task list also includes an initial user-task hierarchy ranking the first-project task and second-project task based on the initial first-project task score and the second-project task score.

Abstract: A visual mapping system and method facilitate communication and collaboration among users sharing visual maps or topics in visual maps. The visual mapping system tracks user presence in individual topics in the visual mapping system. User presence is tracked for users that are online. If an online user is present in a topic, the system displays an indication of such presence in the topic to other online users currently sharing the same topic. The visual mapping system also provides an interface in the visual map through which an online user can initiate communications with other online users that are present in a shared topic. Types of communications that can be initiated through the visual map include chat sessions, instant meetings, telephone calls, and email messages.

Abstract: The present invention provides a mind mapping system that supports at least two types of topics: (1) topics that primarily provide a blank space in which text and graphic elements can be inserted by the user and (2) topics that operate as components with predefined behavior for the display of a certain kind of content. The first type of topic is well-known in the art, but the second type is novel. The second type of topic enables users to easily display, view and/or manipulate certain kinds of content within a topic. Examples of the second type of topic include topics that operate as video players for the display of video data, topics that operate as spreadsheet applications for the display of spreadsheet data, topics that operate as calculators for performing mathematical functions, and topics that act as interfaces to external systems, such as email systems, CAD systems, inventory/purchase order systems, and contact-management systems.

Abstract: A mind mapping system uploads mind map data to an external system and tracks changes to such data in the external system through the mind map. The invention enables a user to create data objects in an external system through the mind map by classifying topics in a mind map, where the mind map is generated through a mind mapping system. The mind mapping system presents the user with classification categories that correspond to data types in the external system. By classifying a topic in accordance with such classification categories, a user is essentially mapping the topic to a data type in the external system. The mind mapping system interfaces with the external system to upload data in classified topics to the external system. At a later point, the user can then track any changes made to the data in the external system through the mind map.
