Abstract: A process for the hydrogenolysis of a coal liquid bottom containing benzene-insoluble components and having a boiling point of at least 420.degree. C., which comprises:(a) hydrogenating the coal liquid bottom at a temperature of not higher than 350.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst comprising an alkali metal and/or an alkaline earth metal and a metal of Group VI A of the Periodic Table to reduce the content of the benzene-insoluble components in the fraction having a boiling point of at least 420.degree. C., to a level of not higher than 10% by weight, and then(b) subjecting the product to hydrogenolysis at a temperature of higher than 350.degree. C. and not higher than 450.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metal of Group VI A of the Periodic Table.

Abstract: A process for producing carbon black by a furnace method wherein carbon black is produced in a reaction system comprising a first zone where a mixture of a fuel hydrocarbon and an oxygen-containing gas is burned to form a high temperature combustion gas atmosphere, and a starting oil material is continuously supplied to the high temperature combustion gas atmosphere, and a second zone, as a down-stream zone subsequent to the first zone, where a carbon black-suspended hot gas formed in the first zone flows in and is rapidly cooled, characterized in that carbon dioxide or carbon dioxide and steam are supplied to the first zone and/or the second zone to bring the carbon dioxide concentration in the second zone within a range of from 15 to 70% by volume, and the retention time of the carbon black-suspended hot gas in the second zone is at least 0.2 second.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a positive photoresist composition containing (a) a photosensitizer of 1,2-naphthoquinone diazides photosensitive-material comprising an ester of 2,3,4,4'-tetrahydroxybenzophenone in which on the average, not less than two hydroxy groups of 2,3,4,4'-tetrahydroxybenzophenone have been esterified by 1,2-naphthoquinonediazide-5-sulfonic acid and (b) a novolak resin obtained by condensing a mixture of m-cresol, p-cresol and 2,5-xylenol with formaldehyde.

Abstract: A method for producing a separating agent having a fluorine-containing group and a hydrophilic group, wherein a cross-linking component consisting of alkylene di(meth)acrylate and/or glycerine poly(meth)acrylate, and a principal chain component consisting of ester and/or ether having therein a polymerizable vinyl group or isopropenyl group and a functional group are subjected to suspension-polymerization to obtain a cross-linked copolymer, and then the functional group in the copolymer is subjected to chemical modification with a fluorine-containing compound or with both fluorine-containing compound and hydrophilic-group-containing compound. The separating agent of the present invention consists essentially of porous cross-linked copolymer particles having porosity in a range of from 0.5 to 3 ml/g and an average particle size in a range of from 1 to 2,000 .mu.m.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing a 2-(1-hydroxyalkyl)cyclohexanone and/or a 2-alkylidene cyclohexanone. According to the present invention, the reaction of cyclohexanone with an aliphatic aldehyde is conducted in a heterogeneous system of an oil-in-water emulsion, whereby it is possible to obtain the 2-(1-hydroxyalkyl)cyclohexanone and/or the 2-alkylidene cyclohexanone in high selectivity.
