Abstract: A condensate free from stickiness and exhibiting an excellent initial color-formability when used as color developer of pressure sensitive copying paper can be obtained by reacting p-hydroxybenzoic acid and one p-alkyl-substituted phenol or a mixture of two or more p-alkyl-substituted phenols with formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst and then directly taking out the condensate into cold water without any procedure such as dehydration, concentration, etc.
