According to the present invention, at least one edge or border of the surgical drape has affixed thereto a separate edge-piece which includes an adhesive coating on that side which in use lies proximal to the patient's body.

The cover sheet on which the elastics members are applied, is connected to the inside and outside of the absorption body respectively, and the elastics members (23) extend with at least one substantially continually curved portion (24, 25) over at least an area of the absorption body. The strive of the elastics members to contract and the contact of the elastics members with one of the sheets, exert a tension force on the sheet in a direction towards the curvature center of the elastics members, whereby this force is transferred and absorbed by the absorption body.

Abstract: An absorbent body intended to form the absorbent element of an absorbent article, such as a diaper, an incontinence guard or a sanitary napkin, includes a first fibre-based absorbent layer which lies proximal to the wearer in use, and a second, fibre-based absorbent layer which is intended to lie distal from the wearer in use, this second layer having a high liquid-dispersing ability. The material possesses good aquisition properties, which are meaningful to the function of the product. A high surface dryness is obtained, among other things. In addition to cellulose fibers, the absorbent structure may also include superabsorbent material and/or binding fibers, among other ingredients. The pulp mat is very thin, therewith obviating the need to compress the mat further in the product. In the case of certain product applications, the material is softened mechanically prior to its use as an absorbent material.

The invention is characterized in that the absorbent body includes a first layer of fluff, a first superabsorbent mixed in the fluff layer and having a high degree of cross-linking, and in that the absorbent body includes a second layer which contains a second superabsorbent having a higher liquid absorbency than the first superabsorbent.

Abstract: A tampon (8) includes an absorbent body (2) which is embraced by a fluid-permeable casing (4) of thermoplastic non-woven material. A withdrawal string (7) attached to the absorbent body (2) exits centrally from one end surface (10) of the tampon. The casing material (4) is heat-sealed at least at the central part of the end surface (10), by pressing a mandrel (9) against the end (10) of the tampon, so as to coalesce the thermoplastic material to an essentially fluid-impervious film (11). This improves the protection of the tampon against leakage and also increases the stability of the tampon.

Abstract: In a method of manufacturing material suitable for use as a top sheet in an absorbent disposable article, such as a sanitary napkin, an incontinence guard or a diaper, a laminate (1) comprised of a plastic film (2) and a layer of non-woven material (3) on at least one side of the plastic film is applied to a perforated supportive device (6) with one layer of non-woven material facing towards the supportive device. The plastic film is heated to a temperature above its softening temperature and there is generated between the two mutually opposing sides of the laminate a pressure difference of such magnitude that the plastic film will rupture within the regions of the holes in the supportive device so as to form openings (10) which lead to the associated non-woven material. A soft and smooth, liquid-permeable top sheet material is achieved.

Abstract: An absorbent article, particularly a diaper, has a central absorbent unit (1) which is comprised of an elongated absorbent body (2) enclosed between a liquid-permeable inner casing sheet (3) which lies proximal to the wearer in use, and a liquid-impermeable, outer casing sheet (4) which lies distal from the wearer in use. The absorbent unit is provided along its longitudinal edges (9) with liquid-impermeable folds (6) which are upstanding from the inner casing sheet and which form side-leakage barriers. The article has a side-flap (18) on each side of the absorbent unit (1). The side-flaps (18), optionally with associated edge (21, 23), are produced in the form of rectangular strips (10) completely separated from the absorbent unit (1) and are thereafter jointed thereto. A longitudinally extending edge-part (13) of each strip (10) is suitably folded double and the backwardly fold part (19) is joined to the outer casing sheet (3a, 4b or 4) of the absorbent unit (1)along a curved fastening line (21).

The absorbent body also has a high surface dryness and low rewetting tendency and exhibits good absorption properties.

Abstract: A method of producing an absorbent structure in an absorbent article includes the steps of compressing an air laid web of cellulose fibers into a dry-formed sheet having a first density of between 0.2-1.0 g/cm.sup.2 and mechanically softening the compressed sheet by a noncutting method to a second density, which is lower than the first density, whereby the sheet is delaminated so as to form a plurality of partially separated thin fiber layers, each of which layers exhibits a density which corresponds to the first density.
